Since I wrote this in early November the Carney government has admitted they are not on track for 1.5 or 2 degree targets, and said they'd need a "significant change in policy" to get on track, and then promptly signed a pipeline MOU with Alberta and rolled back more climate rules..
Canada has abandoned the 1.5 and 2 degree targets
What does it mean to abandon something? It means to “cease to support or look after (someone); desert,” to “give up completely (a course of action, a practice, or a way of thinking)” or to “discont…

Not just immigration, but housing even more so. The Liberal obsession with "the market solves all" has screwed an entire generation of Canadians.
Which is why the Trudeau Liberal increased official immigration targets, more or less. They also badly screwed up on the rest of the immigration file, however, and now we are overcorrecting
Sargent did a lot of work here and describes in several ways how Miller’s worldview is distorted.

“demographers like William H. Frey have gamed out what a scenario of net-negative migration will look like over time, and it’s not pretty. It results in population decline, a dangerously aging

Slave catchers in pre civil war America have nothing on these guys.
Trump guys on Twitter are using Grok to “hunt” daycares in their nearest city to see if there are kids in them and, if there are, if they’re Somali.
This is so fucking dangerous.

This an opportunity for the NDP. The left is wide open. I'm sure they won't be interested. Their American consultants have convinced them that chasing the right is the only option. Pity.

Trump: "Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed. It sounds a little strange but President Putin was very generous in his feeling toward Ukraine succeeding, including supplying energy, electricity and other things at very low prices."

First, get rid of Mike Johnson. I will know they are serious if they do that. Until then, it's all talk.
This is what I’ve been talking about for months now:

GOP lawmakers are trying to figure out how to reclaim their power after ceding it all to the White House.

The problem? They’re cowards, and most of them are just going to resign instead.

Congress looks to reclaim relevance after ceding power to White House
Frustrated lawmakers are looking to 2026 in the hopes that they can reclaim some of the power many fear they’ve ceded to the White House under President Trump. Over the course of 2025, the Trump ad…

Bernie Sanders: "We need to be thinking seriously about a moratorium on data centers. You gotta slow this process down. It's not good enough for the oligarchs to tell us 'you adapt.' Are they gonna guarantee healthcare to all people? What are they gonna do when there are no jobs? Make housing free?"

I recently watched, with great surprise and disappointment, a weeklyshowpodcast segment in which you and other "personalities," gleefully mocked and derided the relatively small subset of individuals who continue to wear a face mask in public.

Not everyone is an insane psychopath.
some good climate/energy news:

* 96% of new US power capacity was carbon-free in 2024 (56 gigawatts!)

* 2025 included the first month ever when 51% of power on the U.S. grid was carbon-free

* The golbal trend is overwhelming: The world is now investing more $ in clean energy than fossil fuels
Clean energy is going to win. It's just a question of when.

Cutting property taxes for Oregonians affected by wildfires. Canceling planned freeway tolls. Pausing local new taxes in the Portland area. We have to keep going to make life more affordable for Oregonians.

Hear hear. If the US wants to jump off a cliff, the rest of us should have the option to wave goodbye from a safe distance.
Don’t even get me started on the “other countries can’t regulate tech despite the social harms their products cause because the US has an extreme framing of free speech compared to other Western countries.”

The US can let tech products tear their society apart. That doesn’t mean others have to too.
