Stop me if you've heard this before:

If the NYT still had a public editor, that person would have official standing to ask, WTF???

They axed the public editor. So it's up to the rest of us to ask, unofficially, WTF???
To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

After ABC‘s craven collapse, it seems increasingly clear that the way forward needs to be independent media not under the thumb of oligarchs. The Defector model is one sign of hope.

Trump made a huge tactical error getting the BBB passed so quickly. The billionaires now have their tax cuts and their judges in place. They don’t need an erratic old man screaming about tariffs and taking bribes in cryptocurrency. That’s my explanation why the WSJ seems determined to take him down.

This is a great point about subtle language manipulation and framing by the media.
I object on aesthetic and maybe quasi-moral grounds to language like “devout” and “deeply religious” in this context. If his fanaticism adhered to a different faith, he’d get “fanatic,” “extremist,” “zealot” etc. Perverting the Cross to commit murder exempts you from “devout”

Trump is starving Ukraine of some vital defensive systems. Again, it needs to be said, the US government is now acting in such a way that it is helping the Russians kill Ukrainians.
😡🇺🇦🇺🇸 Zelensky: "We agreed with the previous US presidential administration to transfer 20,000 missiles to Ukraine to fight Shaheds. It was an inexpensive and special technology. We were counting on them. But the US now decided to transfer these missiles to the Middle East."

Eye opening for anyone who still sees the U.S. as a model for democracy
Why did American institutions fail so profoundly to hold a president accountable when other democracies routinely do? Far from normal democratic practice, it's an exceptional failure US elites and institutions. This thread and article digs into why the US system failed where others didn't: 🧵

The basic problem with elite American journalism is that it can admit the possibility that a politician could be corrupt, unfit, criminal, or even authoritarian but it can never, ever actually arrive at the conclusion that a major politician IS any of those things.
