I wrote this back in 2019 but I think it’s relevant now: No, Charlie Kirk was not an advocate for debate and speech. In fact, he may have been the single most important figure in ensuring speech would be punished on campus. He was a well funded right-wing agitator connected to state power.
The “Free Speech” Cheat | Shane Burley
While TPUSA has staked their reputation in the defense of “free speech,” student activists are increasingly pointing out their material effect on campuses.

We don't yet have any idea what the ideology of the Kirk shooter was.

But we do know that the Denver school shooter was a far-right white supremacist.

As someone who has closely watched some of these fascists pre-regime but is still trying to make sense of how they govern AS a regime, this is a very helpful crystallization
again: it’s a regime, and the regime’s composition includes various private citizens, propagandists, and soon, likely, paramilitaries. it doesn’t include career civil servants. opposition party is not a governance partner, it’s an enemy to be crushed. bsky.app/profile/rvbd...

Charlie Kirk died blaming black people for gun violence while at the exact same time a white supremacist was carrying out a school shooting.

Now is not the time for acceptance and resignation. This is - yet again - a time for commitment and action.

Do not say you’re weary - before the battle has been joined. Simply unacceptable.

Rumor has it that it's #VolcanoMonday. Happy to join with some of my favorite volcanoes. That's Kilauea (2018) with the lava, Iliamna (2004) with the ice avalanche, and Redoubt (2004) with the swooping wall and glacier.

Yep. Also, the strategy of “we need a popular front against fascism that spend everyone from Angela Davis to Liz Cheney” probably would have worked better if the WH had actually acted like fascism was an imminent threat.

I still hold that it was actually pretty reasonable for low info voters to conclude J6 et al was no big deal, because obviously if a guy tried a violent overthrow of the govt he wouldn’t be walking free and allowed to run for president again.

For the first time since 2007 I don't have a Twitter account. It has been a constant through my professional career.

As an ADHD introvert, it's how I networked, chatted hobbies, and bemoaned football.

I hope it works out here!

Why I’m optimistic about the energy transition:

Humans tend to underestimate the pace of innovation and overestimate the inertia of incumbent technologies.

Clean energy technologies have scaled much more rapidly than predicted by modellers
