Somehow the "We need to support policies that are popular" crowd never land on the very popular polices like "taxing big corporation more," "making health care more affordable," or "paying teachers more."

It's always just "be 10% more racist."

Fox News and OAN are both doing “Free Tory Lanez” content as a cynical appeal to Black men, and it’s insulting

The FBI would have agents follow her and even tried to get people close to her to bring her heroine in the hopes that she would die of an overdose. Local police would stand in the theatre when she sang waiting to arrest her the moment they heard the opening of Strange Fruit.
It’s the birthday of Billie Holiday, a survivor of abuse & an enemy of the state who was targeted by the FBI through her use of narcotics for bringing lynching to light, & died handcuffed to her hospital bed.

Happy National Library Week! If you don't have a library card, go get one. If you have one, use it!

Public goods thrive when everybody uses them. That's why they push kids to charter, home, and private schools, why they sow doubt and fear of libraries and our collections.

Use it or lose it!

I think a lot about the dangers that come with the govt, corporations, billionaires becoming more confident that the vast majority of the country will sit back and watch heinous human rights violations and blatant abuses of power, with no real response beyond occasionally joining a peaceful protest.

ICE couldn’t disappear people like this if Bush and almost every Democrat hadn’t fought for it—not supporting draconian surveillance organizations in 2001 was seen as monstrous.
I’m sorry we’re not about to rewrite the W. years as some boring blip when dude was launching illegal wars, tried to privatize social security, and oversaw a large recession tanking the economy.

A lot of people like to dismiss racism as insubstantial to material realities but we’re watching a nation burn trillions of dollars in wealth to entrench a racial system of domination.

Remember this whenever people try to categorize racism as the domain of poor and backwards people. The people at the commanding heights of commerce, media, and law worked to empower Trump and enable his agenda.

This is what the titans of industry endeavored to achieve. They leveraged real resources and influence to enable these goals.
So the basic proposal, if I’m following correctly, is to wrench the whole American consumer economy back to Gilded Age protectionism by means of Executive fiat, right now, tonight, while Congress tries to relieve the tax burden on some rich people but everyone else goes on paying income taxes too.

Tesla had its third-worst quarter ever in the first three months of the year, a stretch that's corresponded with Elon Musk's time with the Trump administration.

A lot of this effort to erase the achievements and the history of Black people in this country, is a direct response to people having their precious slave owner confederate statues taken down. And what’s wild is many people think these two moves are equal.

There are too many people who are agonizing every day over what Elon Musk is doing, who will still defend the existence of billionaires. They’re not connecting the dots somehow.

I’ll never not remind people that the New York Times called Ida B Wells a “slanderous, nasty-minded mulatresse” during her anti-lynching campaign.
Now is exactly THE WRONG TIME, NYT, to run the "Well, actually, maybe colleges were too woke" op-ed. What the hell is wrong with you?🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Hosted an art show last weekend. We sold over 400 tickets & raised over $13K for youth arts programs & $1.4K for the WA Immigrant Solidarity Network✨ it’s a tiny drop in the bucket compared to what’s needed but it feels good to amplify art + create space for community, while supporting what matters.

I think we’re doing the press a favor by thinking they’re being duped into treating these EOs like edicts. We know that can be pedantic and rules obsessed because we just lived through them doing so with Biden.
It’s really strange how Trump figured out that Executive Orders are basically “longer tweets that drive giant media attention” and the media hasn’t figured it’s being played each time they report on these as if it’s Moses coming down the Mount with stone tablets.
DC is uniquely vulnerable and we really need all of you with State representation to join us in pushing back against what promises to be a ton of cruel and unnecessary actions: www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/...

Speaking of “decisive tests of our society,” during the 2024 election, the Biden admin armed & funded Israel as they targeted every hospital in Gaza, destroyed over 90% of all residential structures, and slaughtered children.

And most of the US failed to stand up and say it was unacceptable.
The decisive test of our society in my lifetime was the 2024 election and our failure was spectacular and total. I will never again have any faith in the American electorate to do the obviously right thing.
