Hosted an art show last weekend. We sold over 400 tickets & raised over $13K for youth arts programs & $1.4K for the WA Immigrant Solidarity Network✨ it’s a tiny drop in the bucket compared to what’s needed but it feels good to amplify art + create space for community, while supporting what matters.

In 1970, Seattle’s BPP (which was led by Aaron Dixon) opened the Sidney Miller Free Medical Clinic, with a primary focus on addressing well-baby care and sickle cell anemia testing. Later, it re-opened as a full service clinic & the name was changed to Carolyn Downs in honor of a fallen BPP member.

In 1968, the Black Panther Party established the first Peoples’ Free Medical Clinics to combat systemic discrimination against Black people in hospitals and private medical practices.

Of the 13 health care clinics they originally founded, the only one still operating is in Seattle.

I wonder if they realize, when they say things like this, that their party along with the Republican Party do everything in their power to stifle the creation of new 3rd parties.

Really excited to have Erynne on the emerging artist roster for this showcase. A few years ago, I hosted a print sale to benefit House Our Neighbors and Stop the Sweeps—she was one of the first people to donate prints🥹

Seattle: Our 9th Annual Showcase is on 3/22, at AXIS Art Gallery, featuring works from artists like Angelina Villalobos Soto & Charde' Brown.

The proceeds fund our youth afterschool arts programs and, this year, 10% of proceeds will go to the WA Immigrant Solidarity Network.

The Waiting to Exhale soundtrack topped Billboard for 5 weeks, with 5 Top 10 hits, including 2 #1s. It was nominated for 11 Grammys. Sold over 12M copies. And Babyface wrote and produced every track, except My Funny Valentine. 30 years later, I’m still in awe.

I have! And I was so excited about it (because I’ve always been obsessed with Lorraine) that I hosted a little book swap event and gave away some copies🫶🏾

This professor, Dr. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard, along with some of her colleagues and students, are still facing charges for protesting Israel's genocide of Palestinians at UC Irvine.

The anti-genocide left was quickly blamed for Harris’ loss. But, now that the dust has settled a bit, more and more people have focused on a new scapegoat: the George Floyd uprisings.

The message is: resistance will be punished.

“Don't you ever think they're not in cahoots together. That's his boy, that's his buddy. But they're playing that old con game. One of them makes believe he's for you, and he's got it fixed where the other one is so tight against you, he never has to keep his promise.” Malcolm X

Someone cited Derek Chauvin as proof of improved police accountability. So, here’s your annual reminder that this was the initial report after George Floyd was killed. Without the bystanders, some local journalists, and honestly Black Twitter, Chauvin wouldn’t be in jail.

Every time I see them do the Haka in parliament, it moves me. Something about it.
