People talk about Paschal Donohue like he's some budget balancing guru, but if I handed in my Leaving Cert Accounting exam and had forgotten to fill in the column where you're supposed to house 15,000 people I'd be failed on the spot.
In minding its pennies, the state prioritises beancounting over the value of those services to society.

One criminal bar solicitor ruefully told me that it’s more a vocation now to work defending clients.

as a reporter, the part of this that i’ve simply never understood is how the next person to ask a question when he does something like this doesn’t simply repeat the question that set him off. it’s not just solidarity with your colleague, it’s an important question that remains worth asking
I’m not going to pretend it’s easy to say something in the moment when you witness the president do this and you’re aboard Air Force One with all the uniformed officers and secret service and fancy wood accents, but this is really an instance where you should. people.com/donald-trump...

This is why I talk about sheriffs a lot when it to comes to immigration: they decide (in most states) on whether to hold people for ICE at all!
ICE abducted Leticia Jacobo and tried to deport her, she is Native American.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office, which held her for ICE, admitted that it was a ‘clerical error’.

Her family fought through layers of bureaucracy to stop her from being disappeared.

These small, seemingly insignificant jobs that feel like "anyone" could do them are often where people first get to cut their teeth in a field where it's hard to get anything resembling a handhold
I see the same argument being used against people being replaced by AI "actors" for short internal videos in companies.

Meanwhile that represents pay for the actor, and the crew, and the small time producer just evaporated into the nether.

Modest work is still work.

Oh yeah btw the reason why Vine is being relaunched with great fanfare and no Al is because it's jointly operated with an Al company and they probably don;t want to pollute their scrap pile with stuff they've already shat out.

I've said this before, will say it again:

The CEO of this place got her career started in the technofascist crypto space, so the idea that she was some leftist progressive stalwart has always been a bunch of horseshit.

She is literally -one- of them and always has been.

Jack Dorsey is real close to Musk.

DiVine is made by RabbleLabs, on their site you will find a widget called "And Other Things" that takes you to another domain and explains a lot of stuff about their/Nostr's Ai.

Most likely they just want a free dataset of tons of actual videos to train on.
