BREAKING: I'm starting up a new line of games that I'll be putting out on @thegamecrafter.bsky.social. Some will be reprints of older Formal Ferret Games, some of these will be expansions to existing games, and some are going to be brand new.

Of course, I'm calling it Informal Ferret Games.
It was a bit of a bumpy start, but after an intense couple of weeks, Mojo and Freddie seem to have become fast friends

I've kind of suspected this for a while. Still early yet, but this is a fascinating direction.
One of the lead authors of the subtypes study compared earlier autism research to assembling a jigsaw puzzle, only to find that the pieces didn’t quite fit— because “the box had always contained several puzzles, shuffled together.”

There isn’t just one autism, she said: “There are many autisms.”
New science points to 4 distinct types of autism
When Marc and Cristina Easton’s son was diagnosed with autism at 20 months, the Baltimore couple left the doctor’s appointment in confusion.

Donald Trump just bombed a hospital on Christmas. But a cashier at Target said "Happy Holidays" to me when I was doing a return this morning. I have never felt more politically homeless.

Happy to have gotten one of my favorite board games, De Vulgari Eloquentia, to the table for game day last night.

Rolled credits on Rise of the Golden Idol, the follow-up to the previous Curse game. Graphics were improved greatly. They're still a bit ugly, but now in a charming way; I think the intention of the art direction comes through a bit better.
Games played this weekend…

• The Roottrees are Dead: One of the best puzzle/detective games I've played. Great puzzles, great story, great hint system.

This is a hashtag that *delivers*
This is the 15th year of #DuvetKnowItsChristmas, which is preposterous. Rules: if you find yourself dealing with unusual / claustrophobic / gaudy sleeping arrangements this Christmas Eve, share a picture with the world. Use the hashtag (with capitalisation) and cc me if you can be bothered.

I don’t watch much TV (ironic given my ludography), but you don’t need to know Pluribus to catch Tiffany’s drift. She’s on point as always.
As has been discussed elsewhere, Pluribus is the best thing that artistically and metaphorically describes the AI discourse, without that being an impact font THUMBNAIL spoonfeeder.

It even unpacks this theme in ways that some people who don't understand nor like the show *complain* about it.

“wet dream” implies the existence of—no. No. I’m not doing this hack shit. One thing existing does not mean it also has an extant opposite or inversion. No one thinks this and it’s usually just a way to write a dumb pun or intrusive phrasethought. I’m too good for this. Dry nightmare

Is there a Bracket City clone out there? I would love to play it without benefiting the goons at The Atlantic.

He is SO back.

I'm convinced that the current obsession of the US government with annexing Greenland comes from people who have learned about global politics playing Risk (the board game). Just look at the map. (Image from Wikimedia commons) commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ri...

Now one year into NYC congestion pricing:

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M
As we celebrate NYC congestion pricing never forget that Gov. Kathy Hochul indefinitely postponed it in June 2024 citing anti-congestion propaganda like "Broadway shows will suffer" (they haven't) & "pizza places will close en masse" (they didn't) & "New Jerseyians won't come to city diners" (lol)
Congestion pricing by the # ‘s 6 months in:
* 67k fewer drivers entering zone daily
* Delays in Holland Tunnel down 65%
* Traffic deaths down 32% so far in 2025
* $500m projected this year for MTA capital improvements
* B’way attendance +12%
* Subway ridership +7%

So yes this program is a SUCCESS.

If anything could use a Streisand effect, it's this
60 minutes CECOT segment. Recorded through my browser. HD quality. Not phone. Spread it around. If you're press, it's yours. Go nuts.

It's streaming on a Canadian website, but there is no telling for how long.

There was a very funny BBC sci-if radio play a couple of decades ago called "Nebulous," by Mark Gattis. Leaned a bit hard on recurring episodic catchphrases at times, but was still genuinely enjoyable.

Phew, Mojo is feeling better, so no vet visit required, hooray!

Now to get my arm to heal
December 21, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Update: no fracture, but I might need to see an orthopedist this week if the pain doesn’t go away.

Still to do: eat something, take Mojo to vet
So, I am spending the day in an ER waiting room instead of the vet's waiting room. Sigh. (Will probably go to vet tomorrow with my arm in a sling)
December 20, 2025 at 10:55 PM
Today I needed to take Mojo to the vet, and he was hiding under our sofa. It's a heavy sofa, heavier than I should have realized. When I lifted its side, I felt two pops in my right arm, and then I wasn't holding it anymore. (Thankfully, no Mojos were hurt in this process.)

Had a @hollandspiele.bsky.social game night yesterday. Striking Flint by @johndubois.bsky.social was really good, even though our strike got busted. Ten Dollar Words is going to become one of my favorite @amabel.bsky.social games, I can feel it.
