All this is being done with a heavy heart. I'm sad to say that we had to say goodbye to my ferret Dottie, who had a case of lymphoma that went through her very quickly. We only had her for a year. How I wish we could have had her longer. /🧵

Meanwhile, in Jersey City, Solomon (the progressive candidate) has advanced to a runoff, likely against McGreevey (the big-money candidate).

Postscript: Harold Lloyd was an amazing silent film slapstick artist, right up there with Chaplin and Keaton. You've probably seen him hanging from a clock in his film Safety Last.

One final note. Here's an excellent article on the subject, that explains that baseball home teams batting first has happened a surprising amount in the past couple of decades, because everything is falling apart. sabr.org/journal/arti...

According to this article, for a long time, there was no standard in college football to indicate whether home or visiting team would be listed first in a score. wtop.com/news/2014/12...

(Fun note: the smirking guy on the right of the screen? Lou Gehrig, who sticks his tongue out at the camera and quickly exits the scene.)

How do we know it was set in 1928? Because midway through the movie, Lloyd's character is driving a taxi, and has to deliver Babe Ruth (playing himself) to "the Yankee Stadium" as fast as he can.

And he would update everyone in his shop regarding the score, in the best way he could.

In the film, Lloyd's character would get phone calls each inning from a place near the Stadium where they'd update him on the score.
(Take a good look at this photo. Remember that this game is being played *at* Yankee Stadium)

But this in no way implies that one show is "better" than the others. In fact, in the first link the Spiel organizers specifically state that they deliberately put a lower ceiling on ticket sales to better manage traffic, which is a very sensible decision and leads to a better show experience.

If anything's going to make Leo go full Bacon Pope, it's the rest of the world needling him for being a White Sox fan

Somehow, this sums up today's current events.

And the details! They’re detail-obsessed.
Like, check out this water feature in front of the Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT. It appears to be a reverse waterfall. Such a simple effect, but in the right context, is such a good detail.

I'll start with the most important bit: I have no significant role in running the Kickstarter, production, fulfillment, or anything like that. Those days are long over for me, thank goodness.
My role here was primarily design, with the occasional piece of advice for the business end.

Went to a concert for the first time in ages! My younger sister is into metalcore, so she's been teaching this old dog some new tricks. Poppy was fun tonight!

And coolest of all: the store got a powered Mahjong table! It’s a popular game at the store. (I’ve never played it myself, but now I’m very curious)

You might remember Petrograd Sector, my homemade version of St. Petersburg.
When I first mentioned it, @lordjunon.bsky.social convinced me to add the Market expansion module.
You’re right, it makes a good game very good! A bit long, but we had an AP-prone player.

Today, @itsamecj.bsky.social taught me @kevinwilson42.bsky.social’s excellent game Kinfire Chronicles. Love games where so many elements are “equally unbalanced”, and every play feels powerful. Played really well at 2, as well.

Next was Hot Streak, which I continue to describe as "like Camel Up, but stupider (complimentary)". One guy in our game group has taken to saying,"Gobbler will break your heart."

Wonderful game night tonight! Started with High Rise, which I'm still honored that my game group requests. I hope my winning the game doesn't change their opinion of it.

THIS one. It's been a wild ride with THIS one.
This is my ferret Dottie. She used to be reclusive and afraid of people. But a lot of that was a mutual misunderstanding.

Closed with Vantage. 4p game, not recommended, but I'm still happy because it let me try the game.
It's really interesting. The story it tells is weirdly disjointed, but that makes it feel more like an underground sci-fi film that's become a cult favorite.
