Hakeem Jeffries voted for Charlie Kirk Day but still isn’t sure if he’ll endorse Zohran Mamdani. This is why the approval rating of the Democratic Party is lower than Trump’s or the GOP.

Amazing how those democratic lawmakers who were hunted down in their homes in the middle of the night in Minnesota weren’t a watershed moment of political violence, huh?

You can write this only if, by virtue of your income, identity, or both, you are utterly removed from the consequences of politics. To pretend that the racist, misogynistic, anti-gay vileness that Kirk spent his life spreading is secondary to the fact that he spread it "the right way" is appalling.

Charlie Kirk geeatly contributed to division and rage in this country. We don't need to whitewash that or pretend he was somehow above those forces because something terrible happened to him.

Why is it that Haberman and other journalists at the Times can't tell us when Trump is lying because "nobody knows what's in his mind" or whatever excuse they always give but they can tell us when they think he believes his own bullshit?

popular anti-fascism as taxpayer revolt...might have some legs
Question for Mike Flood: With $450 million being allocated to Alligator Alcatraz, and ICE burning through $8.4 million a day to illegally detain people—How much does it cost for fascism? How much do the tax payers have to pay for a fascist country?

Monday’s mass shooting may put concerns over gun violence back on voters’ minds, and have already lead some to scrutinize Mr. Mamdani for his views on policing. “He clearly does not understand what public safety is all about,” said Cuomo w/ @emmagf.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/07/29/n...

This. It is so dangerous, and so unavoidable because of the way we have built our communities, that we simply cannot allow ourselves to think about it. I always say, parents every day expose their kids to one of the leading causes of child death as a matter of routine.
Something not limited to Sean Duffy is how people will get into their cars and think nothing of the risk they face of death or injury, which is several orders of magnitude greater than your risk of being hurt on public transit. Driving a car is the most dangerous thing most people do each day.
Sean Duffy is having his daily pants-pissing session about public transit: "They force people into the subway, and the subway's not safe. If you're a liberal and you want people to ride the subway, make it safe. Take the crazy people out."

reading Al Jazeera gives a more accurate view of the world and it is free
This is what the NY Times chose to highlight from the Netanyahu/Trump meeting, compared to Al Jazeera.

You decide which is the important news.

The same people demanding you present a photo ID to vote are perfectly fine with letting you be arrested, handcuffed & thrown into a van by armed men wearing plain clothes, face masks & presenting no identification of any sort.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

The American public believes a ton of fake facts about immigration:
* there is an easy legal means to migrate to the US
* most asylum claimants lie
* illegals immigrants collect benefits & pay no taxes
* immigrants are more likely to be criminals than citizens
* lawful enforcement is cheap and easy
what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!
Wow. New CBS poll finds majority (55%) supports the *general goal* of deportations, but a bigger majority (56%) dislikes how Trump is carrying them out. And 63% want due process.

Again, we need a better discourse around public opinion on immigration, as I've argued:
