Hi everyone, I'm Manuel Correia. I've been designing videogames and boardgames for the last 14 years.

These are some of my favorite projects so far. Have you played any?

Hear, hear!
I think a lot board gamers underestimate the depth of light games and overestimate the depth of heavy games. More moving parts does not necessarily mean a game has more strategy. It often just means there's more noisiness obscuring the impact of your decisions.

The amount of times I sit in a call with a dreamer and their dream game is basically "everything from my favorite six games smashed together into perfect harmony and there was endless flawless content and it has graphics everyone likes" and I have to explain that making feet go on stairs is hard
i think what a lot of people never seem to realize is that a lot of people's vision of an "epic dream game" isn't actually very deep and comes down to scale and/or having a lot of features, whereas by embracing limitations you can be pushed in a far more radical direction.
rpgmaker definitely isn't the right tool for everyone, but I think using opinionated pre-baked tools to make some games would be very instructive to a lot of folks setting out to make their epic custom dream game. they're a much lower-stakes way to learn important lessons like "how to tell a story"

That's better! I like that it implies that the deck construction has already happened.

Still a bit too similar for players not in the know but that's the right direction.
It's kinda just semantics but I prefer "constructed deck game," which IMO better conveys that constructing the deck is not the gameplay. Also it isn't just synonym words in the same order like deck building and deck construction.

Fun concept, and I'm intrigued to see a Detective as a Criminal. Left me wondering what NSG has in mind for Shaper and Anarch.

And as a fan of roguelikes, don't get me started in the term "roguelike". Nowadays it's used so broadly that it doesn't describe how the game plays.

We could use clearer terms than "deckbuilding game" and "deck construction game".

They sound identical to people who aren't into the hobby but they make a world of difference in terms of gameplay.

It cannot be overstated how much hobby gamers underestimate how unintuitive and difficult hobby games are to non-gamers.

This is perhaps even more true of professional game designers, publishers and reviewers/pundits, broadly speaking.

hey i'm the new editor for The Games Press!! excellent show by People Make Games about video game journalism, a topic dear to me. this episode has maddy meyers and zoe hannah on the launch of Mothership, great talk with chris on the current moment in independent journalism. check it out!!!!
Extremely pleased to bring The Games Press back today with Mothership's @midimyers.com & @zoehhannah.com!

We talk about the current state of feminist writing in the games media, whether "subscription fatigue" is real & how they've processed what happened to them & their former coworkers at Polygon.

This! Finishing games takes different skills than starting games. It requires prioritization and making hard choices.

It teaches you to let go.
Ive been talking about this a lot over the last couple of years, specifically with respect to public funding for games.

Finishing games is how people make better games. Length doesnt matter. Our entire industry encourages people however to get trapped making enormous endless work they never finish
Also, @mammonmachine.bsky.social has a great write up on making a short story/novella length VN in a "short" period that I like to send to beginner game writers/narrative designers.

That art direction looks so good! A lot more faithful to the original manga than the previous adaptations. I wonder if the tone will be as goofy.
First teaser for "The Ghost In The Shell" anime series by Science Saru studio.
Directed by Mokochan (+ Shuhei Handa on character designs & animation).
Coming in July.
