First edible #mushrooms of the year for me! 😃 (Never found any Flammulina/enoki over the winter. 😞) These are Collybia brunneocephala (means “brown-headed”). They are related to Blewits which are blue(ish), so we have taken to calling them “Brownits”. They hide! Notes in alt text. #IdahoEscape

Re #AprilFools, I’m wondering how anyone can know what’s a joke these days? 🤷‍♀️ I won’t be posting any “news”, but I did remember this post I wrote a few years ago. A nerdy combo of #mushrooms, #morels, and how or brains can fool us or help us. Enjoy! #Idaho fungalforager.com/morchella-fa...

Top Trump admin. officials – including the VP, defense secretary and national security adviser – used Signal, a secure messaging app, that is outside of the national security apparatus to discuss plans for military strikes in Yemen that include detailed, sensitive and confidential information. Great turnout for the Rally for Idaho Public Lands. We cannot afford to lose our public lands to privatization. Do Not Sell off our Public Lands. We will lose our places where we hike, hunt, fish, camp, raft, and recreate. Privatization will lick out the public, and cost our local economy billions.

Letters went out to federal workers this morning stating they were fired due to poor performance. However, all employees had been rated as “exceptional” performers by their supervisors. Please keep these records and pursue wrongful termination claims. Let the lawsuits begin.

Losing NOAA would be devastating. Project 2025 authors want to get rid of it because it monitors climate change, and privatize the information it currently provides for free, so you'll have to buy information about the weather and the winds (imperative for mariners).

It seems like the trick to negotiating with Trump is to realize he doesn’t have any idea what the current facts are.

OK, some lawyer, represent me.

—Acct is frozen on Xitter.
—As an aviator and as a writer on aviation issues, I am specifically harmed by having NTSB etc notices come only via one proprietary source.
—This is like saying that flood warnings, school closings, traffic alerts only via crony media
Someone with standing should file a lawsuit, too, stat. I don’t know if that’s Bluesky or someone who’s been banned from Twitter, but it needs to be challenged. Make the Supreme Court say Republican presidents can privatize government communications.
The NTSB says it will no longer email news outlets or reporters with notifications of upcoming press conferences, including those on plane crashes in Washington and Philadelphia.

Instead, all notifications will be made on X.

We're filing a FOIA to find out more about the change in policy.

Update: he *literally* blames DEI hires in ATC.
1) ATC didn't cause this crash
2) obviously this wasn't caused by DEI
3) blaming DEI hires implies there have been hires.... ATC is critically understaffed.
Based on evidence thus far, the American Airlines crew was not at fault.

Additionally, on that same evidence, ATC is highly unlikely to be at fault.

But the GOP are going to blame Dems & DEI then push to privatize the National Airspace -- this will be a huge blow to the safety of our air travel.
