Sometimes I eat things I find outside. Foraging and Mycology in the Mountain West, USA.
What I’m wondering is how/why there seems to be a mushroom growing here. 🤷‍♀️😉

First edible #mushrooms of the year for me! 😃 (Never found any Flammulina/enoki over the winter. 😞) These are Collybia brunneocephala (means “brown-headed”). They are related to Blewits which are blue(ish), so we have taken to calling them “Brownits”. They hide! Notes in alt text. #IdahoEscape

Love those gigantic ones! They aren’t as common out here in Idaho, but we do get them occasionally. This is one from last July. Calvatia booniana. I had puffball “steaks” for days!

Here’s a #ValentinesDay mushroom heart for all of us eagerly anticipating #morel season. ♥️ 🍄‍🟫 Eight weeks or so for season start in #Idaho! Morchella sp. found in a riparian area of the Owyhee Mtns. June, 2024. #fungi #nature

Very well-camouflaged Tricholoma ammophilum the “sand loving Trich” in a cottonwood riparian area. Aptly named! I find them aromatic and tasty if I can remove the sand. Plenty of lookalikes though-never eat anything you have not fully identified! #fungifriends
