I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Margaret Lyons is one of the best in the TV critic game & I'm v dismayed. Also these rash changes IMO will end in more NYT nonsense. Mgmt wants people with big/growing followings on social/platforms--but also they'll never want any controversy. Those conflicting goals = set people up for failure 👎
Every part of this explanation sounds both rude to the people they’re getting rid of and doomed to fail. variety.com/2025/tv/news...

Proposed NOAA budget zeros out ALL climate laboratories and cooperative institutions.

GFDL, NSSL, GML, etc.

This appears to also end the US greenhouse gas sampling network, including at Mauna Loa, the oldest continuous carbon dioxide monitoring site on Earth.

This is a teachable moment in media history. Chatbot slop makes it into print because journalism has been gutted, there are too few fact checkers or editors, and they are outsourcing articles to underpaid bot-wielding “writers.” Pay writers fairly; pay editors. Also, reader: pay for newspapers.

The last five titles are real books (although not new, like you'd normally see on a summer books roundup)
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

If you haven’t, make sure to choose at least one that you really enjoy & become a supporter, subscriber, or donor to help sustain them!
Scoop: CBS News pulled a "60 Minutes" segment that focused on job losses at the Internal Revenue Service hours before it was scheduled to air, replacing it with a feature story on Cajun music.

The "adapt or die" parts of these comments are the most ludicrous. Die how? What are you going to do to us?

Let me be clear: You cannot stop creative people from being creative people. The most you can predict is that they won't be able to make money, which is in the hands of people with money.
I reckon if you've been a writer for 15 years and you can comfortably replace part of your process with ChatGPT, it speaks volumes about your writing
