Organizing *is* the work. Building community and practicing care skills are foundational to absolutely everything else, but they’re also how we change the paradigm away from authoritarianism and give people the tools to maintain democratic social structures.
Sometimes when I talk to folks here I feel like people think “organizing” is a great charismatic leader rising from the left and telling everyone what to do and then creating a mass march in the streets that is a cathartic outpouring of emotion (but accomplishes nothing).

we've had at least a full decade of chucklehead elites across every industry and social group frying their brains on the internet and it's created this incredible leadership gap on practically every front, because they don't want to lead, but they have the power to prevent anyone else from doing it

understanding how things work is important. understanding the consequences of our choices is important. knowing why things *don't* or *can't* work is important. knowing how to set realistic expectations and deliver on them is important. all of this is important everywhere, not just in politics.

i agree with this, and i guess i'd add that i'd like everyone to start treating important things as if they matter. yes, i'd like electeds to do this, but not just them and not just executives and elites. the lolnothingmatters era needs to die, it's a big part of so many big problems.
the issue with american politics is that not that there's no taboo against lying, but rather that there's zero taboo against outright fantasy and delusion. i'm not talking about things like "we can have everything without raising taxes" esque stuff.

A fantastic read from @sarahjeong.bsky.social on what it's like to be gassed and the violence in the streets right now. On a meta level, I also love the framing; the title and card make it look like just another product buying guide, but it is very much not that.

When racists killed Mickey Schwerner, James Chaney and Andrew Goodman in 1964, they burned their station wagon but left it just off a road where it was easily found.

When racists killed Viola Liuzzo, they advertised her shot-up car for sale, promoting it as a possible tourist attraction.
ICE's decision to just leave cars abandoned in the roads is one of those dystopian things that makes you recoil in shock when you encounter it.
A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

In a country that purports to value the rule of law, "send them to jail" really is the only appropriate outcome for everyone behind a system in which taxpayer funds are spent shuffling detainees around the country to torture them psychologically and to evade district court jurisdiction.
Exactly. ICE’s domestic shuffle flights have more than doubled since Trump took office again, outpacing the overall increase in ICE flights. Using planes to deny due process.

They stopped paying for medical care in these concentration camps in October so it's been dicey since November. And that is also entirely on purpose and a part of the whole scheme.

And since the issue of comparisons is on tap, Anne Frank, like 17,000 others, died of typhus at Bergen-Belsen.

Of course. And that’s why Dems need to lean in and work towards dismantling ICE.
First no funding.
Impeach Noem.
Demand hearings on ICE’s operation in MN.
Demand that Miller resign.

Don’t let up.
“An administration official gave away the game to Punchbowl News, admitting that these “de-escalatory measures” are about placating Senate Democrats so they don’t seize this moment to demand restrictions on ICE as part of any government funding package.”

Think of taking time away to recharge not as not doing the work, but as doing quality control for the work. You’re not going to be able to show up to do it well if you’re depleted

I keep waiting for this, it's a gaping lack in all this talk. They talk about how bad it is that ICE is kidnapping people but don't say a word about rescuing the people who have been kidnapped.
I am glad some politicians are finally, FINALLY, refusing to fund ICE and some talking about abolition.

But where is the screaming, where are the strong words, where is the horror and the remedy for the detention centers? There is no excuse. Free everyone, shut down, then investigate and prosecute.

I'm not going to ask if you're doomscrolling. Everything is hard right now. But you still need to eat some food, drink a glass of water, as well as time to rest and recover.

Try not to stay up too late tonight. Sleep deprivation will make everything you need to do harder, including helping others.

Marimar Martinez was the first US citizen shot by ICE.

They claimed she was a terrorist. Said she was brandishing a weapon.

They lied. Video footage exonerated her and showed the ICE agent shot her five times.

He bragged to other agents “five shots, 7 holes”.

I wish Democrats would start just speaking the truth:

“ICE is killing American citizens in public for exercising their freedom of speech because Donald Trump wants to be a king.

This isn’t about immigration—Trump wants to make it illegal to oppose him, and to stay in power until he dies.”
