On the other side, my inlaws are so white that last year I added a bit of sour cream and onion seasoning to the mashed potatoes and my FIL complained that they had too much flavor.

I once made "tacos" for my Irish American FIL - PLAIN ground beef with shredded cheddar and iceberg lettuce in an Ortega shell. That's it. He never quite got over my attempt to serve him "spicy ethnic" food and that side of the family talked about it for years.

If you're ever having a bad night, a quick way to improve it is to microwave a bowl of chili and then dump that on top of a plate of tortilla chips. You can add sour cream or shredded cheese as well. Then you might be under a lot of stress but at least, you'll have some very mediocre nachos.

as a Shakespeare scholar I hated King Lear for a long time. Cordelia shouldn’t have ruined her dad’s retirement party. it’s a moving family drama, though, & has the line that runs through my head the most, for better or worse:
“I am a man more sinned against than sinning.”
