I love living in a country where "newspaper that publishes almost exclusively fake stories" is basically every single paper and seeing this take.
I feel one million years old here, but we do actually have a pretty reliable way of knowing what news is true. Did a real newspaper publish it? Then probably yes. Can’t find it in a real newspaper? Maybe not.
A large majority of U.S. adults now get news digitally, but nondigital news consumers are less likely to say they extremely often or often encounter inaccurate news.

Here is the thing. I do not live in an echo chamber. I have gone my entire life in a world where the majority of political media has been screaming that I'm a stupid asshole and anyone who does what I want is basically a Muslim traitor to the country.
I don't think it's healthy that such a large percentage of British journalists have to act like they have no idea what their colleagues do and say all day in order to maintain their brand of sniffy above-it-all savviness.
A helpful thing about being left wing and antiwar is, I don’t have to name search to find lots of people hate me and think I am an asshole: I can pick up a random newspaper or turn on a TV or radio for an endless parade of people getting very angry about me being an extremist and a shithead all day.

To be clear here: the lads loved how the Arab Spring showed a motivated public could use social media to move against abysmal regimes who ruled through propaganda, force and inertia. They loved it! And then they thought about the implications and what that might mean, and then things got frosty.
It is striking to me that the various powers that be - whatever they might be - were willing to adapt to the use of social media in the Arab Spring but they moved decisively and forcefully to crush BLM and Me Too. What lessons should we draw from this, about the people that rule over us.
