The world is so very bad, but this week we hung in our house a tapestry my mother wove, my father made the wooden hanger for with salmon-shaped hardware my brother cast out of copper, based on a photo I made on the middle fork of the Koyukuk River. It feels like the confluence of many homes.

I think Andrew Gillum had the best answer to this question (re: DeSantis)

“I’m not calling him a racist. I’m simply saying the racists believe he’s racist.”
If a reporter seriously asks a politician "do you believe President Trump is racist?" the only proper response from a politician is "Absolutely. Do you think he's *not* racist?"

This isn't remotely hard. And if you can't say it, step aside.

Since its founding, the country has promised some of its citizens success without reciprocity, the freedom not to be bothered by the needs of others. A narcissistic myth that rejects Lincoln’s “bonds of affection” and King’s “inescapable network of mutuality.”
i’ll end this little brainstorm by just asking what it is, exactly, that the MAGA right likes about the United States, since it explicitly rejects those things that make this nation distinctive — its pluralism, its revolutionary heritage and egalitarian aspirations, and its republican institutions

“The halftime show shouldn’t be in Spanish,” and the remedy for this is presumably institutions that actively protect and promote White culture while restricting the cultural expression of other groups.

Which is the textbook definition of systemic racism.
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

This is the second account - the first being in Chicago - of DHS agents mass detaining people and then *sorting them by race*.
More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...

The fight always needs to be a little bit silly. The BPP paper had comic strips. The IWW had goofy songs. We play unionbuster bingo when our bosses are on tv.
We keep talking about how demoralized we all are and for sure collective organizing would help. But a comedy set like this could also do a lot of meaningful work. I feel so much better after laughing at The Harper’s Letter with people who get its absurdity and I think the rest of us would too.

Lotta folk saying FAMU should fight back & resist or whatever but FAMU & other HBCUs above all else need to Remain Open.

That is their job right now. To remain open.

Harvard should fight. Yale should fight. Ivy League schools with war chests rivaling small countries should fight.

They fell first.

Just want to say, I see all the comments saying it’s a sign of his senility or mental decline. You could be right but I have a thing about linking racism to mental acuity. Not sure it needs to be, most of the time, and I don’t like the idea of racism as deviant, for a lot of reasons.

A major American city being radicalized in real time.

Unions work!
Jamie Allard asks what was Pitney referencing with unions.

Pitney: The conference committee last year only included union wage increases and the governor only included union wage increases this year. "The message is wage increases only happen if employees unionize"

Allard: "Wow, that's a lot"

A turning point in the Birmingham civil rights campaign was the strategic decision to allow children to participate in protests. Civil rights leadership disagreed about this tactic. MLK was for it.
ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...

Other people’s property, other people’s bodies. The Access Hollywood tape is his whole worldview. Grab what you want, when you’re a star they let you do it.
A common theme between the Kennedy Center, the East Wing, and Greenland is that POTUS views someone else’s property as a real estate project ripe for redevelopment.
So, East Wing treatment for the Kennedy Center?
