It bears emphasizing: The same admin that is attacking and defunding our universities, over what they call an antisemitism crisis, is now saying antisemitism isn't a problem at all.
This is wrong. There is widespread antisemitism in the US, AND there is also deliberate conflation by Democrats and GOP of criticism of the genocidal, apartheid Israeli government and its occupation of Palestinian lands with antisemitism––itself an ultimately antisemitic move.

The right, along the Roberts Court, is trying to nullify the Reconstruction amendments guaranteeing equality under the law, in order to restore the Antebellum Constitution, which envisions “liberty” as an eternal aristocracy of race and class (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

A growing cultural divide in the AI era will be between people who read books and people who don’t.

And i’ve said before, guilt is useless and can easily curdle into resentment. A sense of moral obligation and solidarity on the other hand, can be productive.

For all the mocking of liberal white guilt, conservative white guilt is the same feeling, just mobilized to more destructive and self-destructive ends (upward redistribution of income and class domination, not to mention pervasive censorship).

Fwiw I think the “apologize for being white” thing is very clearly about making sure white people don’t feel an obligation to alleviate past injustices or make society fairer. Ultimately to do that you have to raise taxes and the billionaires holding Vance’s leash don’t want that.

Most people have memory-holed 2020-2022, but we experienced generational trauma on a global scale and at some point that kind of thing bubbles up to the collective consciousness.

Then and only then will we realize the extent to which grief and loss looms over every decision we have made ever since

As you plan end of the year donations, please consider the Caleb Scholar's program. It is the only program that I know of that provides Alaska Native students how to use their education to support their community after graduation, mentored & run solely by Inupiaq

Lifelong Jews most commonly mention a somewhat different set of reasons for why they are Jewish.

- 60% say they like the traditions
- 57% cite liking the sense of community
- 53% say because it’s their family religion
- 50% say because it’s what they’re familiar with
