I can't see the word "assassinate" lately without a moment's dissonance.

Charlie Kirk was ass ass inated? Yeah, that sounds right.

No, I never did have that response reading about MLK or JFK. My subconscious is both 12 and leftist.

This may have been my most influential #writing year.

I published 20 articles on the #epistemology of writing —examining how the #Socratic, #Narrative, and #Thermodynamic dimensions of thought shape craft & sharpen thinking.

I did most of that work on #Facebook. They removed me from the platform.

Wait, wait, the Scandinavian countries aren't socialist? They are merely (checks notes) capitalist high tax welfare states with universal healthcare?

God bless capitalism, buddy. Let's do what they're doing.

Good talk.

Large law firms are siding with Trump over their clients and employees. Let me give you one statistic to exemplify this:

DOJ is suing 22 states for access to sensitive voter data.

My firm of 60 lawyers is fighting in all 22.

Not a single big law firm is fighting along side us in any case.

Bond: Well, I'm not what you'd call a passionate man.

We're now sympathizing with the mental stress of the SS.
Just thinking... we give so much attention (as we should!) to the victims of state violence, ie, people sent to CECOT.

But, we give little consideration to the psychic violence suffered by those tasked with carrying out the physical violence.

Yes, they "chose" those jobs. But...

I don't know if he will enjoy what eventually happens to Nazis who aren't sent to prison, either.

#FiftyWords — A Speculative Fiction Challenge

Years ago, I entered a 50-word horror contest. I didn’t win.
I did write ten stories I’m still proud of.

Fifty words is merciless. No padding. No mercy. Only story.

Join me. If you dare.

YOU CAN TELL A STORY IN #FIFTYWORDS
Fifty words is merciless.

It strips genre down to structure and leaves only what matters.

Years ago I wrote ten. I’m starting again, broader this time, to see what the form still has to teach me.

I approve of this studio regime.
@fatsam.bsky.social's "The Long Run", Walter Jon Williams' "Hardwired".

I was going to say John Varley's "Titan", but the Gaea trilogy (Titan /Wizard / Demon) really needs to be a top quality streaming series.
OK, less contentious post:

You've been placed in charge of a movie studio, and have an unlimited budget to adapt any work of your choosing that has never been made into a live-action TV series or film. What are you picking?

For me: PC Hodgell's Kencyrath Cycle and there's no close second

Has anyone lost seasonal tornado weather?

I woke to torrential rains, a smatter of thunder, high winds, rainbows, openings in the clouds which then poured out sleet, ice and unicorns.

We are still waiting for the tornadoes.

Come and pick up your weather at FEDEX.

I wrote a story for DS9 and haven't seen the great majority of it. I was watching Babylon 5.
I am 55 and love TOS and TNG

but

I have never seen an episode of DS9

and I don’t know how to explain how awkward I feel about that

You want to never decline, you have to die at your peak.

I didn't, and am grateful for it, people were depending on me.

Here's to declining in style.

I made my first professional sale, to IASFM, at 18. I knew a lot, for an 18 year old ... which is to say, not very much at all.

If I'd followed that advice, I might have published for the first time at 30.
"Write what you know."

My experience is MUCH more limited than my research and imagination.
what is your least favorite piece of writing advice and why? 👀
