That was the immediate cause, but it was poor ship design and unauthorized modifications that meant that they could not restart the main engine after the power failure. Without the main engine, they couldn't steer. I enjoyed this video on it: youtu.be/znWl_TuUPp0

November 18, 1957:

An outbreak of 22 tornadoes struck the Southern US. Ten of these tornadoes were significant (F2+), the strongest of which was an F4 that destroyed 40 homes in Blount County, AL. Four people were killed and 61 were injured.

If you’re anxious about the aurora because “we didn’t use to have the Northern Lights this far south,” don’t be!

The sun’s just doing a normal solar cycle like usual. We just now have cameras in our pocket that can detect aurora, and social media to spread the word to get out looking!

Video shows lava shot over 1,000 feet into the air from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano on Sunday. The impressive eruption was accompanied by a "volnado," or a tornado-like swirl of dust and ash caused by the contrast between the heated air near the lava and the cooler ambient air.

The NTP has confirmed 11 new ON tornadoes based on AI-assisted satellite review. All caused EF1-EF2 tree damage.

These are in addition to 5 tornadoes already confirmed in ON via AI-assisted satellite review. All sectors in Ontario have now been reviewed.
