* Nuclear Power is the solution to global warming
* Social media is a tool for authoritarianism and a threat to civil society

The fact that someone was fooled by a spoof from a website (literally) called the Dunning-Kruger Times has no bearing at all on my confidence that he would definitely have the upper hand in any negotiation with President Xi, or Putin.
With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

Among Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, it was Hungary that exited Moscow's grip in 1990 with the highest GDP per capita.

The Russian-backed Orban regime has since looted the country to the point that it's now the lowest.

Trump's tariffs are hurting us in two ways:

First, the obvious: Higher costs → either lower profits or higher prices.

Second, more subtle (perhaps bigger): We’ve signaled we’re an unreliable partner, so allies are reorganizing supply chains to avoid us. That's hard to unwind.

When deception’s more profitable than honesty, users lose.

Internal documents suggest that Meta earns $3.5B(!) every 6 mo. from scam ads, revealing a deeper systemic problem: the economic incentive to tolerate “higher legal risk” content still outweighs any penalty. www.reuters.com/investigatio...
Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

The reason the EU gets pushed around by the US and China is this: Russian shadow fleet oil tankers operate with impunity in the Baltic, keeping Putin's war machine running. If you want to be feared and respected, you have to confront the challenge right in front of you. Nothing else really matters.

1983 I visited Travemünde in West Germany and saw the fences and guards of the Iron Curtain. I asked my father if the wall would ever fall. "Not during mine, and even your, lifetime" he answered. Seven years later we visited Berlin. My father bought himself a big chunk of the wall as a souvenir.

Immigration is a difficult issue on both sides of the Atlantic. In the US, it caused the Democrats to lose the 2024 election (in my view) and immigration policy has radically changed. In Europe, the political center prevents that with its "Brandmauer" or "cordon sanitaire." Which is more democratic?
