I have modelled how different voting systems would perform with zero tactical voting using favourability data from the British Election Study. All the voting systems I have modelled would be achievable with electoral reform in this parliament, as they do not require boundary changes beyond...
@georgemonbiot.bsky.social you'll be interested in this, too.

Proportional Representation needs a ranked choice element to damage Reform UK proportionately to how much voters dislike them.

But AV is the electoral reform that absolutely destroys their chances.

Hi @ashleyjkirk.bsky.social

I've just read your Polanski effect piece.

If you look into the effects of tactical voting on Green Party support, it's very possible they are at least in 2nd on voter support by now. The guardian reported on a preferential poll in October with these numbers...

I've seen a lot of such photos in my time, but that turn-out is not something I've seen before.

They'll have a great time, and they'll win by a comfortable distance.
Hundreds of volunteers hitting the streets this morning in Gorton and Denton.

Lower bills, tax the super-rich- hope will win.

Only the Greens can stop Reform in this by-election.

With all the gabble about how a vote for the Green Party would let in Reform, so you must vote Labour in Gorton and Denton, remember how that argument played out in Caerphilly. Plaid won by a substantial margin a seat everyone predicted would fall to Reform.

Labour dropped to 11%.

Unbelievable that Keir Starmer would rather throw away votes for years to come in the north of England than have Andy Burnham as an MP. Nothing annoys northerners more than southern politicians in London telling us what we should do.

Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.
