I think it’s important to hold people and businesses accountable but also we have to extend some grace at least to those fighting on our same side. imho if you want more indie companies to succeed, then you have to also be willing to give some benefit of the doubt when missteps happen.

I'm sorry for all the folks affected by layoffs recently. It's not much easier in the indie space and most of us are just getting by. If you are thinking about starting up a studio or going indie, I'm happy to share what I've learned running a small studio for the last 8 years with a remote team.

Not only is 9,000 Xbox layoffs an insane number, it is the largest game industry layoff in the last 4 years. This brings the total since 2022 to nearly 44,000 developers. Regardless if it’s success or failure, nothing is enough to satisfy the greed of shareholders and corporations.

people ask me how to make an org or an event (Pixelles, Polaris, Kitfox, etc). over time, it's become clear the steps can't be broken down past
1 - decide on a goal
2 - figure out how to reach that goal
3 - find a trusted collaborator
4 - take it slow, it's a marathon

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.
