In other words, the Court is trying to buy itself two more days to see if the House approves the shutdown deal (which may well moot this case), rather than having to rule *now* on whether USDA can be forced to fully fund SNAP for November. And KBJ objects because she’d just deny the application now.

What counts as work drama at my job would just be incomprehensible to anyone who is not an appellate attorney. I tell my coworkers "They filed a motion to publish!" and my coworkers gasp and yell "Those bitches!"

Trump's average disapproval rating has hit 56% in our tracker at fiftyplusone.news. He is now just a point off his (then historically low) net approval rating at this point in 2017, and nearly meeting the high point of Joe Biden's disapproval rating in 2022/late 2024 (57.3%).

Even if this was an unusual way to frame his relationship to this relative - it's not, I have a second cousin I've always called my aunt - it's such a meaningless distinction. They're bending over backwards to label Mamdani as untrustworthy, and they're getting away with it because he's not white.
I finally tortured myself by looking into the 'controversy' over Mamdani and it's even stupider than I thought: his "aunt" isn't just a female family friend of an older generation, it's his father's cousin.

100% of white people understand that person being called an "aunt." Most would say the same.
Sorry I refuse to entertain the complete non-existent world where white people don’t know that countless cultures, including some of their own but certainly diasporic racialized ones, call their mom’s cousin’s friend’s sister they grew up with “cousin” and call close women elders “aunt/auntie”

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

The new Supreme Court term starts today, meaning that -- in a novel twist -- the justices will hear oral arguments in some cases before they issue rulings that actually explain what they are doing.

Again these are the officers under JB’s authority. Don’t need name patches “with this uniform.” At least five of the protesters arrested yesterday were arrested by ISP or CCSO.
Have seen a few troopers out here without their name patches. This one tells me they're not required to wear them "with this uniform."

Asked him to identify himself and he then told me his name is "Tad Nelson."

All charges brought against protesters at Broadview today must be dropped. When cops and agents attack crowds without provocation, they make shit up to justify their attacks (in his case, an attack waged on a cooperative crowd to produce fascist social media content). These charges must be dropped.

This won't be my favorite album. But I like plenty of the songs well enough.
I think the lyrics of Wood are very reminiscent of Blank Space, mocking the public perception of her. But I don't know how many people will think the same.
