I've noticed a microgenre shift in SF over the last year - or possibly just in the books I've come across. Specifically, a bit of a boom in big concept space opera books working in the Banks/Hamilton ideaspace. Meaning SF that simultaneously delivers a strong action storyline against a backdrop

Okay 95% of the time I’m sufficiently terminal to know what weird rw nonsense or personal obsession led to his confused brain drippings but this one leaves me at a total loss
I’ve said it before: I know they’re trying to avoid sanewashing through a combination of direct quoting and dry understatement, and that’s better than just ignoring his deranged babbling, but I don’t think “dry understatement” is really what the moment calls for.
