I too want to fly to France, just like Frankie!

If you tell Duolingo that you're depressed, it will cancel your lesson. I was just trying to practice my terms for understanding French songs like "Je fume des clopes dans un blockhaus noir parce que je suis déprimé" (I smoke cigarettes in a dark bunker because I'm depressed).

son brought home a pinto bean plant from school last spring. it yielded one (1) bean, which we planted. *that* plant yielded ... one (1) bean, which we have also planted. Five months of cultivation has yielded two beans. anyway, you were saying something about "grow your own food"

I'm having trouble imagining a more evil statement. Also, people seeking food should never be held "accountable." What a ghoul!

This is such an inconceivable mindset to me. One of my favorite things about travelling outside of Utah is being able to hear people speaking different languages. That's how you know you're surrounded by culture!!!
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

I miss that statue so much. Vigeland Park is the best thing in Oslo, which is saying A LOT.

This article was so stressful, I had to take multiple breaks to read the entire article. It's like a horror movie where instead of yelling "Don't open the door!" you scream "Don't buy that purse!"

Do you think Megan Kelly was mad that she has two first names, so she got revenge by giving her kids (Yates, Yardley, and Thatcher) two last names?

My daughter gets upset because there are more pics of Henry in my camera roll than of her, but he's so photogenic!!! Not that she isn't, but she's often scowling.

It took listening to 13 hours of Middlemarch, but I'm finally enjoying it. Will there be a reading of Featherstone's will? Will Fred finally recover?!

I'm too confident now, wondering if I could listen to audio of Proust's books!

My 11 year old has to write an essay for class about whether the world is better or worse with the internet. She said back before the internet you could only look things up in books, which meant you never learned anything. I guess books can't compete with YouTube.

Ezra’s journalist wife survived harrowing pregnancies—the subhead of her essay (linked below) is “my pregnancies could have killed me, but at least I chose them.” @ezraklein.bsky.social—you value choice in your house, but not for the unhoused? Uninsured? Undocumented? For Black and brown women?

It is so weird to live next to two houses where at the first house the guy screams all day and it could be at a sports game, his wife, or someone on the phone, and at the second house the woman lovingly talks to her dog about how she missed him while she was at work. The comparison is jarring.

Utah was the first state to allow open carry on campus. A would-be assailant could walk right onto campus armed as they please and nobody could’ve done a thing about it.
In 2014, Anita Sarkeesian canceled an event at Utah State after a credible assassination threat because the school’s response was that Utah allows guns on college campuses.

People have warned about this kind of violence for years. But they weren’t the people the powers at be wanted to protect.
