Baseball will now centralize all in-game data & tech at minor league level as they have with Statcast at the major league level. This will bring the bottom up, but critics say it's anti-spending, anti-innovation, and punitive to the teams that have invested in the future of the game. t.co/0UuQei8EtW

A New Angle on UCLs
Last year, 59 pitchers endured Tommy John surgery, and 140 suffered elbow woes. Baseball is in the middle of an injury crisis. Is there anything we can do about it?

Tony Freitas is an MiLB pitching legend. His 342 career Ws are fourth best ever. He struck out Babe Ruth, he went 17 innings against Dizzy Dean.

Oh, and there's that time he got let out of jail, pitched a complete game, and then went back to jail again.

The pitcher who was let out of jail, threw a complete game, then went back to jail
By 1931, the Marin County court system was sick of dealing with Tony Freitas. Sure, the young pitcher for the Pacific Coast League's Sacramento Senators was becoming a star. He went 19-6 with a 3.24 E...

I mean whatever, put a catcher in that spot. But the Luis Matos spot is super intriguing... Marco Luciano, Jerar Encarnacion, Matos, no options: pick your defensively-challenged right-hander! Want contact, power, or youth? Can't have even two of those things in one guy.
knizner is gone and they are shopping Matos.

Tyler Fitzgerald has an option, new Giant Joey Wiemer does not. So I suppose the bench right now is all righties: Knizner, Koss, Wiemer, and Luis Matos (who is also out of options). If Matos could play a decent CF, they wouldn't need another OF on bench. This will probably change again. #Buildabench

Tatsuya Imai's fastball comps really well to Joe Ryan's fastball once you account for arm angle and movement. But it's faster.

He's on my list of four free agents that could be bargains on their projected deals: www.nytimes.com/athletic/681...
