Among major publications, Helsley was the 4th-ranked reliever on the market with a median projection of 2/24.
Ryan Helsley gets 2/$28m from the Baltimore Orioles. I didn't have him in my top 25 available so I didn't predict his contract, but after last year's disaster with the Mets, it wouldn't have been that

Helsley still has one of the best sliders in the game, but his FB got hit very hard last year, even with the elite velo. Part of it was pitch tipping, but part of it is a shape and release point. There is some work to be done there. But the upside is huge.

Go get a good lefty to set up or match up with Kittredge in the 8th and then the pen looks pretty solid.

People are still finding ways to complain

“Pending physical” is a terrifying phrase for Orioles fans

Hell yes. Helsley was one of my top reliever targets. Big rebound year coming IMO.

Just logged into X, the everything app, and it’s … useless? I had like one post from within the last 2 hours after 5 scrolls. Everything was from a day or two ago. I didn’t realize how algorithmic the feed had become.

Hector Gomez is saying the Mets are favored to sign Framber Valdez for around 6/200. No clue whether there’s any truth to that, but at 6/200 consider me all the way out.

Emilio Pagan would be OK. I don’t know how much I’d trust him to close or be the best high-leverage arm in the pen. He’d probably hold up better than Jansen, but you’d need to bring in another late inning guy as backup IMO.

In my latest article, I covered over a dozen players that may be selected in the 2025 Rule Draft

I highlighted a handful of dynamic arms with impressive stuff and a bunch of batters that could carve out depth roles in 2026

I’ve been interested in Edward Cabrera for a long time, but even I admit the chances of him being both durable and good enough to provide the impact the Orioles need are not great. If the cost were modest he’d be a good flyer as a backend arm with upside, but I think MIA would want a sizable return.

Orioles INF prospect Aron Estrada continues to be underrated IMO.

4.5-tool guy who can moonlight at 5 or 6 positions, with 2B and LF his most likely landing spots. Undersized but athletic with excellent contact ability and solid speed on the bases. Below average but not abysmal power.

The typical Tatsuya Imai comps are Trey Yesavage (similar arsenal, including that weird backup slider) and Luis Castillo (though he’s a little more sinker-heavy and contact/command oriented) with a more durable Kodai Senga as his upside. Joe Ryan gets thrown in there for the fastball shape.

Tankathon dot com has the Orioles likely to pick 4th in the 2026 draft with a 9.24% chance of picking first overall.

It is undeniable that LaGuardia is the best NYC-area airport now but I liked it even when everyone hated it

Just put green chutney from leftover Indian takeaway on mashed potatoes and it’s hitting so hard.

A scenario I hadn’t yet explored: they deal Beavers instead of Mayo as part of a package for a controllable playoff starter, then sign Bellinger to split CF/1B with Cowser and Mayo.

I want to believe this — that the OF picture isn’t settled and Ward gives them the ability to do some wheeling and dealing while targeting a bigger bat — but for the sake of my sanity I’m going to assume the positional side of things is basically done until we see otherwise.

I like Taylor Ward's plate discipline. Remarkably similar to Beavers, just from the RH side. Ward/Beavers '26:

ZSwing: 53.7% / 57%
ZContact: 86.5% / 83.8%
Chase: 20.7% / 18.9%
Whiff: 23.8% / 23.7%

The thing that Elias is right about, as much as it drives folks crazy, is that no free agent can do as much for your org as a cheap impact player. Spending 9-figures to watch an aging bat quickly decline from 4 to 1 WAR isn't really what gets you to a championship. It's the strength of the roster.
