In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

Ah, yes. Delightfully distractible off-season baseball research is alive and well.

Miguel Rojas holds a special place for me. He was a staple of my career with the #Marlins, and my son's first favorite ballplayer. I can't help but delight in his historic World Series for the #Dodgers... Even if I was rooting for the other team.

The very first thing I do when I play a #Rockies franchise in MLB The Show is trade for Troy Johnston and then promptly lead the league in home runs with him. It appears my strategy secrets are getting leaked!

I had the pleasure of working with Gabe for a year at the #Marlins. He's such a great dude and a fun, challenging-in-a-good-way colleague. Really happy for him!
Gabe Kapler has been promoted to general manager of the Miami Marlins, club announced. Still working under baseball ops president Peter Bendix.

Seeing Miguel Rojas have the game of his life tonight, I'm reminded of my research that found, yes, former #Marlins are overrepresented in the playoffs. Why? I honestly don't know.
