Guy who isn’t using his masters degree in history. Paleontology, archaeology, film scores, hockey, cryptozoology and supernatural nonsense, and politics. I know a little about a lot because my brain is constantly scattered.
Got to explain to my children this morning the concept of “not all laws are moral” and “sometimes it’s right to defy them.” I always wonder if I’m doing a good enough job or just muddying things for them.

Hey, Democrats? You know what is an important kitchen table issue? Ensuring the whole family is at the kitchen table and not in a secret prison.

Well they should stop being such immense cowards and say so. They should say the thing they want to happen. How is this so hard for everyone to understand
they have literally impeached him twice already. They currently have zero power to do anything to impeach him again beyond performative measures that will go nowhere. All indications are that they likely will impeach him again in 2027 if, but only if, they win the midterms.

If you’re a grown ass man in full tactical gear asking a child to show you ID or proof of citizenship you failed at life. Utterly & completely failed. Loser.

Dropped Facebook finally. Which is good, but also bad because I don’t interact with anyone online anymore. Just typing into the void now.

in retrospect, it was amazing how much power people like Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell had at their fingertips in the pre-social media era. They could write an airport book claiming potato chips killed more people than all historical wars combined and it would become universal received wisdom

Martin Luther King Jr. was disliked by a majority of Americans during his lifetime; in 1966, about 63% of Americans viewed him unfavorably. Roughly 57% of Americans said sit-ins hurt the cause of integration. The March on Washington had 36% approval. All of these methods were peaceful protests.

One reason this matters: if you meet someone who served in the Navy or Army or w/e, the odds are they probably have no more experience or comfort with directly beating someone than a normal person

This is not true of cops, so react around them accordingly

soldiers are mostly young people who want to do something else with most of their life. They generally don't want to live the rest of their lives with the knowledge that they executed an unarmed mom

cops want to spend thirty years with the nickname "killer"
Civilians in combat zones become combatants in combat zones when you murder their family.

I took for granted that Europe would always be our ally, even when we argue. It’s been a fact of my life and seemed a cemented part of the international order. I never thought I’d see the day when our stated policy is to destroy democracy there and treat them as hostile:

The Atlantic is Fox News but for high SES liberals worried their kids spot at a UC will be taken by some Latino kid from the Central Valley.
"Rich kids are gaming disability accommodations to gain an unfair advantage" is actually very different from "America has an extra-time-on-tests problem" — and the author hasn't proved that either! Rich kids might just be more likely to be diagnosed.

Am I crazy for thinking Trump’s going to wait for the crisis to hit maximum pain and then swoop in with some funding for a program he makes up to argue that democracy can’t respond to crises but his rule can? He likes to solve problems he creates.

So far today, Chuck Schumer has said his strategy for preventing Trump sending troops into blue cities is to win over Republican senators (!) while Hakeem Jeffries praised Eric Adams's courage and authenticity (!!) while refusing to endorse Mamdani. Again.

These two gotta go.
