The left needs their own Russell Vought, someone who knows how everything works in obscure detail and knows which levers to pull. I don’t know that they have someone like that. I don’t think anyone has any idea how to do the boring, nitty gritty operational stuff.

Martin Luther King Jr. was disliked by a majority of Americans during his lifetime; in 1966, about 63% of Americans viewed him unfavorably. Roughly 57% of Americans said sit-ins hurt the cause of integration. The March on Washington had 36% approval. All of these methods were peaceful protests.

One reason this matters: if you meet someone who served in the Navy or Army or w/e, the odds are they probably have no more experience or comfort with directly beating someone than a normal person

He’s right that people don’t understand how orgs are set up, or who is doing what, but he’s missing the point that sloganeering is how you build consensus. “Abolish ICE” is for an election, abolishing it AND reforming CBP is how you implement it. It’s foolish to hem and haw at wording now.

I know who he is but after decades of being sold on opposition leaders being real democrats who become tyrants, I’m skeptical a self-styled monarch actually believes in democracy.

That’s the key. Regular people still have little idea of what is actually going on. If impeachment is about a clear charge and the case can be made in pithy soundbites it’ll be super effective at reaching people just catching a few minutes of their local news or Tik Toks.

Impeachment is still an important victory. It’ll keep chipping away at Trump’s popularity, and they can use it as a rally in the midterms. “We impeached him, give us the Senate and we’ll finish the job.”

The objection will clearly be based on the deal the US gets on electronics from Taiwan. This is clearly a pay to play international order now.
