“Ayeee! Boss! Ms. Nora’s brought up fresh strawberries for us!” Chef cried, grinning in delight. Both women worked steadily to pit them one by one. Bayle had only ever had strawberries that had been frozen, dried, or canned, just like most food he’d grown up on. Intrigued, he drew close to watch.
“I didn’t know they were so pretty when fresh.”
“We get ‘em on Guinevere and puts ‘em with whipped dairy cream. I don’t gots dat here, but I think I’ll make some cakes and soak ‘em in a sweet-milk to go with. What do you think?”
“That sounds delicious. I’ve never had one fresh. May I?”
Bayle grinned and reached for the basket.
“No.”
He was dismayed when Nora abruptly swatted his hand away.
“You’ll stain your gloves,” she explained. “Here.”
She turned to him, held up the berry she’d just pitted, and waited. He obediently opened his mouth. The moment she let it fall past his lips, she looked suddenly worried, as if rethinking her move, then turned away bashfully to continue her pitting. It was firmer and less sweet than he expected but he was more distracted by the memory of her warm, soft fingers brushing his lips. His face grew hot.
“They’re very refreshing,” he stammered. “Thank you.”
Then he walked out of the kitchen, heart aflutter, having completely forgotten why he’d come. He was starting to worry that apple blossom fever might be chronic.

like yeah the site "lacks whimsy" because you haven't dragged your community over with you. when you leave, they do too. that's how this works.

I love the tiny badass woman trope. I include the trope all the time.

I also love roses, and include them frequently as symbols and motifs.
