Trump, RFK, and their cronies likely want to create the (false) perception that autism is preventable and curable, because that allows them to: 1) cut accommodations, services, and support for autistic kids and their families, and 2) blame mothers for autism in ways that make (1) seem justified. 1/
I don’t exactly how to phrase this, but like… is autism that bad???? Like, why is it such a source of fear??? Of course there are challenges but you can be autistic and have a rich, fulfilling life! Many people do! I don’t understand the preoccupation.

I don't think pointing out the fascists' 'hypocrisy' is a good use of time. It's not hypocrisy, it's hierarchy. They actually do believe that they have the right and obligation to dominate you because they are superior to you. They are using their power not being hypocritical.

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

Just passed a fatal accident at 3rd & St Marks in Brooklyn. A bystander told me a deliverista was riding around a car that was double parked when the driver doored him, sending him over his handlebars to be crushed by an oncoming truck.

If we had protected bike lanes this wouldn’t happen.

Judging by the shamefully opportunistic & politicizing rhetoric of some rightwingers on Twitter, & their cynical use of Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder for political point scoring, it’s almost as if Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman wasn’t murdered by a Trump-voting MAGA maniac just 12 weeks ago.

Zohran wants universal childcare for everyone in this city and I hear people who NEED this asking 'OK but how will he pay for this?' I'm like 'bitch I haven't heard your ridiculous ass ask ONCE how the city is paying 11 BILLION A YEAR FOR COPS.' NOT ONCE. So damn demagogued.

The enthusiasm for Zohran’s Scavenger Hunt points to an opportunity to engage NYers in existing (& new!) volunteer programs. Imagine driving turnout for NYC Hope, the annual census of unhoused NYers, or the Tree Census.

NYers want to do more, they just haven’t been engaged like this before.

Today is a beautiful DC August Saturday. It has almost no humidity. But I had lunch with a friend here and absolutely NOBODY is dining outdoors the restaurant was empty. Very few people walking on the streets too.

Why would Winnie Greco try to pay off a reporter so cheaply?

Because $150 wasn’t the total sum. It was a test. She was priming Honan. There’d be more rewards in time.

Just to be clear: these rising rates have nothing to do w RFK nixing boosters (though that's very bad), they're because both Democrats and Republicans have dismantled public health and no one is masking and taking airborne disease precautions.

Our current vaccines don't stop transmission, MASK UP!!
COVID-19 rates in the Southwestern United States reached 12.5% — the highest in the nation. It comes as California students, for example, return to the classroom after RFK Jr. nixed the CDC’s recommendation that they receive booster shots.

ICYMI, the eye-popper in today's PPI: a 39% rise in wholesale fresh vegetable prices.

It's the largest month-on-month increase ever recorded in the summer (data to 1947), and one of the ten largest ever, regardless of season.
