Why are so many non-Library folk so clueless about the cyberattack on a national institution, 2yrs after the event? Are Libraries so boring that the media just aren't interested? Or was the BL so embarrassed it limited media coverage?
A good piece. It is very sad that there is not more public interest in the British Library. But then, I suppose, most people have never been inside a reading room and don't really understand how research infrastructure works.
I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

You would assume that anything sensitive held on such a database will be restricted to those who need to access it, but the truth is that, somewhere up the line, an IT person in a basement with a degree in an unrelated field will have admin control over absolutely everything because they know Excel.

Every non-librarian who gets upset about libraries discarding books should be given a project where their college has decided that they want one of the floors of the library and they have to clear it out; project length: 3 months, project budget: $0

Proud of my fellow professionals.

I'll also add that we deal with every type of human behavior. Librarianship is not for the conflict-adverse or fearful.
“After library officials resisted, the DOJ officials departed without resolving the conflict.”

One of those sentences that tells you who and where we are as a country in 2025: librarians are braver than law firms and CEOs.
