it's fucking crazy how thorough @mariadahvana.bsky.social is with her edits, you're getting a more detailed, deep, exhaustive passthrough with her than you probably would if your manuscript were already at a publishing house beneath the wing of an extremely swamped editor. worth the dosh & then some

Need a break from cold-blooded murder?
This article is both witty & genuinely helpful:
When people start blooming in yr presence, you’ll discover that some of them make you sneeze…. But this is still progress, because in the Great Hierarchy of Subjective Experiences, annoyance is better than awkwardness—u can walk away from an annoyance, but awkwardness comes with you wherever you go.

Yes! This is the truth. Medical costs just sent way up, but my meager budget hasn't grown.
btw for those who don't know why Americans with chronic illness got like 75% more stressed on Jan 1st, it is not just because all the insurance rates blew up.

On 1/1, deductibles reset. which means you have to spend some amount of money (up to $10k sometimes) before your insurance COVERS ANYTHING

Violence is too often sloppy; it spills over. Misogynists kill a lot of men, racists kill white people, ICE in its attacks on immigrants and anyone who looks like them just killed a white US citizen. When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail; when you're a gun everyone is a target.

The Doorkeepers - Uncanny Magazine
It’s Sunday night, which means it’s our Friday night, which means the Doorkeepers go out and get absolutely blasted. It’s not as messy as it sounds. We’re polite drunks; we make a point of it actually...

U.S. cover of the book in the previous post. Goes well with matcha latte.
I'm reading Thomas The Rhymer by Ellen Kushner! I'm really appreciating the slow and melodic pace of the story.

Foreigners stealing our jobs and women? Trains. Gays reading storybooks to kids in the public library with total impunity? You should have a really great train that stops near your house to address the issue. Women having too many abortions? You guessed it,

Knives Out: Wake Up, Dead Man

Wow.

10 minutes in, and you know you're SAFE : it will be smart and well-acted and well-written and well-shot & everything that annoys you in popular culture that you have to settle for anyway sometimes will be missing.

Hey, @aoc.bsky.social - up for a little more bar-tending, for old times' sake?
hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

You gotta admit it's really funny that Trump is cognitively at about the level of a lower beast in one of Aesop's fables.
WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.
