You have to keep giving money to avoid collapse and if there’s collapse you have to give more money. It’s called the free market.

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Position unchanged.
I am serious when I say that everyone associated with this administration should end up in prison, and that includes its enablers like Bezos and whoever the current Sulzberger is. The latter should get the Hague for manufacturing consent for genocide.

i hope this budget gives people insight that a budget increase for police while crime rates are falling and everything else gets cut is a reminder that the wealthy see law enforcement as their own private security force and a means to maintain power and control - literal class warfare
Vancouver's proposed 2026 budget has been released.

It proposes a property tax freeze, a 10% increase to the Police Services budget, a 6% increase to Fire/Rescue Services, and lots of other cuts, including Arts & Culture, Planning & Sustainability, and much more.

Full report here.

Thinking ahead to tomorrow's federal budget and all the talk of Canadians needing to make sacrifices, I can't help but wonder when the wealthiest few might be asked to do that.

Unfortunately I don't think that's part of the plan.
A federal wealth tax could raise half a trillion dollars for Canada.

Extreme wealth concentration is damaging our economy and society. Taxing the super-rich could fund transformative public investments to build a stronger, more resilient Canada.

so much of the public perception against raising taxes on the wealthy is that people have been fooled into thinking they will eventually become part of that wealthy class. class unconsciousness feeding their own immiseration
I always get drawn back to Al Gore telling voters that he’d only raise taxes on the top 1% and then after the election a poll showed that something like 20% of voters thought they were in the top 1% and another 20% thought they would be in the next five years. Just a total tragic disconnect.
Maaaaan, this. So much this. Every time there's any kind of actual in-depth survey we find that the American people are *abysmally* ignorant about even the most basic political facts, but the pundit class just immediately forgets & proceeds with political analysis based on subtle policy differences.
