I was told "if you don't use GenAI, you will be left behind".

But the reality is people include GenAI slop in their work, and if you don't use GenAI, your work is already more careful, higher quality, and more authentic.

I am not just talking about academic papers.

Attention Nicotiana benthamiana users! Certain strains of Agrobacterium (e.g. GV3101-pMP90) induce glandular trichomes because of cytokinin production by Agrobacterium. As this can influence assay outcome, we recommend testing several strains. See our preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Cytokinin-mediated trichome initiation in Nicotiana benthamiana upon Agrobacterium tumefaciens infiltration
Infiltration of Agrobacterium tumefaciens in leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana has become a standard method for transient expression in plants. Like many Solanaceae species, N. benthamiana develops on i...

Everyone should read this insightful post by @kevinbakerwv.bsky.social! "LLMs did not create what economists . . . would call science’s incentive “structure.” Rather this technology arrived into this context, offering a faster way to produce the artifacts the system rewards."
Nature would do well to publish more content like this thoughtful piece from @kevinbaker.bsky.social and fewer Buzzfeed listicles gussied up as career advice "Five productivity hacks for using AI in your scientific workflow"

Someone vandalized our anti-ICE #nativity, but we came back stronger than ever. It’s a piece of living art, and we’re not going to stop sharing our message of compassion and love. We get knocked down, but we get back up again - better and stronger. Love wins - never doubt it.

The Overstory, just try me
omg. Kat Abughazaleh just posted that if she's elected, she'll swear in on a copy of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower.

If you were elected to public office (never mind whether you'd ever actually run), what book would you swear in on?

I'm beyond grateful that I discovered the Blanchet House café when we first moved to PDX. I've learned so much from the guests and the staff about creating community and mutual care.

Please consider donating to help provide 3 free, low-barrier meals a day along with clothes and other support.
Every day, our café staff, like Walker, open the doors to people enduring some of the hardest moments of their lives. Please consider honoring their emotionally difficult work by donating to our Give!Guide fundraiser at https://giveguide.org/nonprofits/blanchet-house-of-hospitality
