Such commentary seeks to redefine pornography as "whatever I wish to censor because I do not like it."
When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

This is horrifying for so many reasons. The one I'm thinking of right now is the billion dollars spent to torture and terrorize and imprison people could easily buy all of us healthcare, child care, parental leave, affordable housing ... all the things the Epstein Class swears we can't afford.
In the last month ICE has bought warehouses in:

- Hagerstown, MD: $102 million
- Surprise, AZ: $70 million
- Hamburg, PA: $87 million
- Tremont, PA: $120 million
- San Antonio, TX: $82 million
- El Paso, TX: $123 million
- Social Circle, GA: price unknown

This is unprecedented.

Forums are nostalgic to people of exactly my age, but I think they just have a different combination of the weaknesses of chat clients and social media. I think what ppl miss is having a small, close-knit community, and that's increasingly hard to replicate as corpos own it all.

fellow engineers,

you really need to start asking yourself some questions when building something:

1. how will the police use what i'm making?
2. what kinds of people are the police going to use it against?
3. how many people will be harmed in silence before we find out?

Guillotines now
ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

Open letter to our Senators:

Gentlemen, Ladies, we don't really care about ICE not getting even more funding. We don't care about more "training" and more rules they won't follow.

We want ICE de-funded. Dismantled. Gone. Driven out of our cities.

It's also what we recommend to folks whose lives literally depend on the security of their communications.

All of that being said, never forget that ANY communication protocol is only as safe as the device it ends up on, and the people who receive the message.
It's not without reason that Signal remains the gold standard amongst infosec professionals around the world. It's what CULT OF THE DEAD COW uses for all of our own internal secure communications, as well.

We trust it.

Sometimes I wonder if this has percolated out enough from the Security Knower community: Signal is specifically and uniquely and notably Very Good about security, and should always be your first choice for talking about whatever. It's not a complicated question or anything. Use Signal.
PSA

under *no circumstances* should you discuss circumventing abortion restrictions or trans care restrictions anywhere that is not end-to-end encrypted. this includes DMs in Bluesky (for now) and any Discord comms at all. don't be vulnerable to LEOs and court orders.

this is what Signal is for.
If you're a developer please never describe a general tool as 'sufficiently secure' or data as 'less important than' without some kind of caveat.

You may be 99% right. But the 1% contains things like 'access to out-of-state abortion & trans healthcare', and 'organising labour action'.

It's obviously very far down the list of actual problems, but the cops being allowed to have uniforms and vehicles that are threatening and 'macho' looking is a contributor to the problems of current cop culture. The cops should be required to wear a uniform that is hi-vis and slightly embarrassing

that's not how anything works they're lying and destroying evidence hope that helps
And what is happening inside ICE detention centers? 404 Media also learned that the federal government claimed that the day after it was sued for allegedly abusing detainees at an ICE detention center, a “system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility.
ICE Says Critical Evidence In Abuse Case Was Lost In 'System Crash' a Day After It Was Sued
The government also said "we don't have resources" to retain all footage and that plaintiffs could supply "endless hard drives that we could save things to."

I don’t think we should be using words like “innocent” or “US citizen” or “bystander” or things like that because — what if someone was an undocumented immigrant with a criminal record? Would they deserve this? No one deserves to be executed on the street in cold blood.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

i don’t care whether they were armed or unarmed, “peaceful” or not.

i do not accept the premise that a state has a right to uphold power over its people through violence, and neither should you.
i don’t actually think the state should be allowed to execute anyone, regardless of any surrounding conditions.

People remember stories of Anne Frank and other Jews hiding in attics, but they're often less aware that by the 1980s, German families were hiding their aging grandparents from Nazi hunters.

From Berlin to Buenos Aires. They had to use aliases. Nowhere in the world was safe. Turnabout is a bitch.
