Maybe I should start documenting more of the winter-specific obstacles I encounter while bike commuting but I should probably balance that with posts of the things that Minneapolis does get right so I don’t feel like such a negative Nancy

I appreciate the plowed bike lanes and sidewalks but how are these crosswalks supposed to be accessed when the corners are like this?

It is 85°F in Minneapolis on October 3rd.

24°F higher than our average high temp for this time of year.

Would be awesome if we eventually did something about climate change.

PSA to drivers: crosswalk creeping is creepy.

The light won’t change faster & you won’t get to your destination quicker by doing this.

It’s dangerous for peds. Just stop at the stop bar.

Sprawl “solves” the housing crisis by turning it into a transportation crisis.
Not a single time in this article glorifying the need for sprawl to address the US's affordable housing crisis is there a mention of the vast transportation costs of sprawling living patterns. Nor is there mention of the fact that sprawl is directly linked to disinvestment in urban cores.
America Needs More Sprawl to Fix Its Housing Crisis
The word has become an epithet for garish, reckless growth — but to fix the housing crisis, the country needs more of it.

I don't jaywalk in fast traffic bc it'd be a terrible way to die. Never occurs to me I'd be ticketed. But on plenty of streets it's common & safe. Police opposition to decriminalization in the name of ped safety is dumb.
Decriminalizing jaywalking crashes into police opposition
A new bill would take most of the teeth out of jaywalking enforcement in Minnesota.

YIMBYs formed a movement around the most boring minutiae of local law and somehow have grown it so much that now the opposition is calling us a cult.

I call that a smashing success.

We've had strong bipartisan support for improving the statewide rebate program.

The return on investment for this is substantial. As Luke from @perennialcycle.bsky.social put it "our bikes are car replacements. That is a win for all of us.”

Not getting much attention, but the Senate GOP is about to start voting - to make sure banks can charge higher overdraft fees. Seriously.

Good time to let your Senators know what you think of that.

Car brain is a choice. It's not an undeniable reality.

Much of Europe made the choice to move away from car-centric development and the results speak for themselves.
