this is awful. this man is so brave for testifying. Broadview is inhumane on every level
Pablo Moreno Gonzalez is testifying in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman about the conditions inside the ICE facility in west suburban Broadview.

Gonzalez says he is 56 and was born in Mexico but has lived in Chicago for 35 years.
Pablo Moreno Gonzalez is on the witness stand. Will start a new thread for his testimony.

Speaking of fast bike problems, did at least get TICD to fix this sightline with SFMTA's help.

It’s great to see misguided mandates on public transit emissions go from a policy wonk topic, to getting real attention.

$$$ goes further getting more people on transit than switching to costly and unreliable battery-only buses.

Muni wants exemption from CA pollution rules. It's a no-brainer.
SFMTA plans to beg relief from the state's zero-emissions mandate. It’d be crazy not to ask. It’d be crazier for the state to say no.

Caught it live, this was a great speech.
Cleve Jones gave a riveting, rousing speech at San Francisco's No Kings rally yesterday, and he's graciously allowing me to publish it. He began: "The pronouns I use the most are the ones probably understood the least by those in the White House today. They are WE, US and OURS."
Cleve Jones: "This Is Our Country"
This is the first guest essay at Meditations in an Emergency. I'm proud to bring you yesterday's speech by the great Cleve Jones, who has for nearly half a century been a key organizer for the global ...

Don’t let the frogwater that’s boiling us alive let you skip over this: we murdered another country’s citizens in cold blood, and when their leader objected, we called him a drug dealer and cut off aid to his country. That’s freakish.
Petro objected to the US bombing a Columbian fishing vessel that had the emergency beacon on because they were broken down, that we subsequently bombed. One Columbian fisherman survived the attack.

This is the official US response to Petro's comments.

Riding BART on Saturday?

We will have long trains.
Parking is free.

You can now pay for BART by tapping your contactless credit/debit card or using Apple Pay or Google Pay at the fare gates.

No set up and no need to use a machine. Just Tap and Ride.

Always rewarding when we can enable analyses like this one, I'll pass it along to colleagues not on Bluesky.

We'll keep producing and expanding this dataset to include more transit service attributes relevant to SB79 as well as visualizations of our process: github.com/cal-itp/data...
also thank god for Cal-ITP's high quality transit stop dataset thank you @edasmalchi.bsky.social

California, this November 4th, the whole country is counting on you.

Prop 50 puts our elections back on a level playing field, preserves independent redistricting over the long term, and lets the people decide.

So return your ballot today. Vote yes on 50.

There is a gulf in America. I submit it is the gulf between good and evil, or at least not-evil and evil.

The gulf is not just between people who oppose this and people who are indifferent to it or reluctantly accept it in support of immigration policy or see it as collateral damage.

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.
AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance

However, they are weaker than they look…

I'm baffled that the governor could be considering a veto. If it isn't signed then there's no chance we turn around the state's housing crisis. If we don't fix the crisis then higher office is out of the question. The only path to the White House requires doing the right thing and signing it.
Three months ago, @gavinnewsom.bsky.social correctly warned us that failing to address our housing crisis would cost us people’s trust, and that the entire reputation of the State of California was on the line.
