"We all have that choice, and most of us make it. There is cruelty to survive, to fight against, but there is gentleness more than anything, our roots deep and entangled. That is what we hold inside, what we take with us, the way we look after each other" Charlotte McConaghy

What I am gathering through listening in is that other fees will increase to support the freeze on property tax, such as community centre fees. The park board's general manager noted that they hope to keep the fee increase minimal, considering they're already on the high side for Canadian cities.

Today the Supreme Court of Canada cleared the way for the H5N1 outbreak on the BC ostrich farm to finally be contained. Unfortunately, the deaths of the ostriches won't end the disease their followers have spread.

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

I won't buy any match tickets. I won't travel to any stadiums. I won't watch this World Cup.

This is a great point. There's so much resistance to increasing ventilation/air purification in classrooms to lower levels of Covid & other illnesses for kids & staff, & so much resistance to masking in healthcare

BUT they'll get busy ventilating chicken barns against avian flu

because profit

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.
Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

I'm genuinely baffled no company has started to make a line of aggressively dumb devices. Internet-connected ONLY when needed (TV is about it), no software, no firmware.

Capitalism is supposed to give us choices, and there HAS to be a large market that does not want to log into a toothbrush.
I went to buy a dehumidifier recently and the only one that was available seemingly required an Internet connection, how about you make shit dry you fucking asshole

This is an astonishingly good news story, it will bring enormous health benefits, it will be noted by historians of london in centuries to come. But it will change no one’s vote, he will get no credit. More people will be talking about trans toilet habits at the next election.
It’s a conundrum.
Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.
