Writer and teacher. Cardiff. Frustrated ex-academic with far too many creative side projects
Pinned
Current project has three rules.

1. Story must start 'Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow'.
2. Story must end 'A quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.'
3. Every sentence in between must be a full pangram, containing every letter in the alphabet.
How do maths teachers teach square roots in Australia? Must be a lot of sniggering.

Possibly Stephen Collins's masterpiece.

Look at the astonishing delicacy with which the sculptor has moulded the palm of her hand.

Pour your unhappiness out
From your too bitter heart
Which grieving will not sweeten.

One of those interesting cases where the cartoon is more interesting than the caption.

One of my local pizzerias just sent this really charming email about how his kids accidentally ordered 3x more cheese than needed & now they're doing £5 Margheritas all week.

I have just decided to finish the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series on the grounds that 'Harry Potter is the antichrist' does not feel as crotchety-old-mannish as it did in 2009. And VOL. IV: TEMPEST IS AMAZING!

Hello, I'm a deaf person in a film. I am only ever profoundly deaf, exclusively communicate through sign language, and never use any technology like cochlear implants or bone anchored hearing aids. Perhaps because of this, I have a mystical connection to nature.
Hello, I'm an English Professor in a film. I have only ever read Moby Dick, Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. I quote them extensively in ways that let you know the film writers were English majors.
Hello, I'm a historian in a film. My office is a massive space filled with Persian rugs, leather couches and massive wooden bookcases. There's a Tiffany lamp on my desk and an original Gutenberg Bible on a stand next to it. I am wearing a tweed suit with five layers.

RIP Ozzy Osbourne. We scoured the archives to find our best medieval bats in the rocker’s honour.

At least Disney realizes that The Incredibles is the best Fantastic 4 movie. Unfortunately, live-action Jack-Jack is exactly as dull as you think.

Literally a conversation I had this evening with someone I knew from the university.
"I thought about teaching as an fallback as well, but then I ASSAULTED MY NEPHEW so I can't do it anymore."
Who just drops that into the conversation?!

I don't know which deaf people need to hear this, but if someone ever asks to try on your hearing aids, you should get your coat because you've pulled.

Here in Cardiff, I've been enjoying the fuss around the Mike Flowers Pops concert. Truly an oasis in the desert of our contemporary music scene

I have a joke about River Song but I keep getting it backwards.
We should have one of those "I've got a joke about X but Y" things but for Doctor Who

Once or twice a year (if I'm lucky) I find myself gripped by a spasm of laughter that continues for a good five minutes and literally brings tears to my eyes. This time it happened in the middle of Tom Stoppard's Shipwreck and I'm still recovering.
