May 4th was a week ago, but as I've just joined Bluesky here's a little #StarWars gaming history for the three people possibly interested - an interview I did with Jack Yarwood at @timeextension.com last year, about developing #NES Star Wars for Lucasfilm.

Surprised to find myself starting over on #FallenLondon last night, having deleted my old character (and years of progress...) four years ago.

Enjoying just pootling around, checking out the onboarding storylets that now exist, and realised I've genuinely missed being in the Neath.

Despite not being into team sports, Shaolin Soccer has somehow become one of my go-to comfort watches, a movie that I keep returning to year after year - this must be my fifth rewatch at least.

Utterly ridiculous, yet weirdly heartfelt and moving at the same time. #movies

So glad I held onto my New 3DS XL.

(And my trusty old DS Lite, for that matter.)

Starting my year on a positive note, so first movie for 2026 was Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, based on his own manga.

It's five years since I last saw it - happy to say it remains a compelling and ultimately uplifting rewatch for me. #movies

Squeezed in one more read for the year! 'The Masquerades of Spring', a novella by @benaaronovitch.bsky.social, features Nightingale operating without Folly sanction in 1920s New York, as seen through the eyes of Gussie Berrycloth-Young, a somewhat Wooster-ish young English wizard. Refreshing fun! 💙📚

Seeing out the old year with a happy arrival - my Kickstarter copies of 'Cosmic Dark' by @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social - a tabletop roleplaying game of weird space horror, which I'm looking forward to running in the new year, and previous game, 'Cthulhu Dark', which I'd missed at the time. #ttrpg

Yesterday's op shop find was Catan (aka Settlers of Catan) for $10, which was (as suspected) unplayed - sealed with parts still in frames. 😎

We have a copy, so this one is going up to the cousins in Sydney, who recently got Ticket to Ride as their #boardgames "gateway drug", heh.

Posting a day late for #LetterboxdFriday and I guess my #LastFourWatched indicates that Xmas season movies are really not my thing. 😉

Even with a to-read pile that's really four, it felt good to finish this on Xmas eve, to "clear the deck" mentally for potential book giftage on the morrow. 😉

'Bookshops & Bonedust' by @travisbaldree.bsky.social is the prequel to 'Legends & Lattes', and I had a cozy fantasy ball with it.

Streaming some telly via SBS On Demand and I have to say that alternating between episodes of Brassic and episodes of Californication can be mentally whiplash-inducing, in terms of cultural and idiom shift. 🤪

Maybe it's good for neuroplasticity though. 🤷‍♂️

Strangely, police armed with semi-automatic weapons does not make me feel ‘more safe.’ It just makes me feel like not attending events at all. None of the creeping militarisation of the Victorian Police force has made us feel (or possibly be) safer. #Victoria #Bondi

Search your camera roll for “hell”.

(I guess it picked up the "hello", but I'm rolling with this, cos it makes me laugh every time I read it.)

Finished 'The Corn Bride' by @markstay.bsky.social and it's absolutely the best in the series. Faye has evolved so much, The May Queen chapter was brilliant but my fave chapter title was 'Inglorious Bar Stewards'. 😜

PS: Mark, I'm one of those "gorgeous nerds who reads the acknowledgements". 😉

Scoop: the pro-teen social media ban lobby group 36 Months was funded & co-staffed by its co-founder's ad production firm that was simultaneously making gambling ads

The federal government has ignored calls for a gambling ad ban while pursuing the social media ban.
