As a science fiction fan, I strongly recommend this book. It takes a critical look at what it would actually take to settle on another planet, and the practical, ethical, political, and legal implications of doing so. (1/2)
I am simply going to suggest everyone read @zachweinersmith.bsky.social and @weinersmith.bsky.social excellent book, A City on Mars. bookshop.org/p/books/a-ci...

VERY GOOD ADVICE
The pixel art in the first two wing commander games is pristine.

Worth getting this mod through to fix A LOT OF ISSUES alltinker.itch.io/wcat even then some bugs.

But this game was worlds ahead of its time for a 1990 release.

When I worked for Reason magazine during Trump's rise to power in 2016, I was explicitly forbidden by the editor in chief from writing about Trump's racism, or the violence and racism at his rallies.

It was a "sideshow," I was told.
Weird. I tried to warn libertarians about Trump

Thirty years ago, Wing Commander was already nearing its end. 🤯

This ranks with MOO 1 and 2 as one of my favorite 90s era sci fi strategy games. The thought put into fleshing out the different factions and leaders is impressive, and helped make the game so immersive.
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999). This game doesn't get enough love today.

I wrote about how the women Epstein and co victimized have been minimized and ignored as individuals even in popular discourse about the very abuse they endured—and how the legal system has punished them and other women, not helped them, for daring to come forward.

Even the most famous victims are silenced
From the Epstein files to Amber Heard, we obsess over victims while denying their own right to speak.

There is a brand new, long three-part oral history of the Fallout franchise: the creation of the first games, the Bethesda era, and the MMO and TV series. 🔥

I'm saving that for this weekend.

Not going to call ICE/DHS. I think the aliens would do less damage to my community.
To report aliens to U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), call their toll-free hotline at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE (1-866-347-2423).
Don't call Space Force. 🫡

I have too many favorites to pick an "all-time" favorite. And someone has already mentioned Privateer. So I'll combine Master of Orion 1 (1993) and Master of Orion 2 (1996), my two favorite science fiction strategy games from the era.
