Quick reality check:

My car's got a ~75 kWh battery. If that battery put out 1 kW of power, it could run for three days.

Get a thousand of those and you have a megawatt of power for three days.

Get a million of those and you have a gigawatt of power for three days.

I’m always amazed by the diversity/density of all the languages between SoCal and the PNW compared to rest of country. This became very obvious to me when researching which indigenous names to use for the PNW volcano tissue box covers. Neat map. Wish colonial influences colors were less prominent.
The Utah Historical Society just produced a new, excellent map of "The Peoples of North America in 1776." Great resource for anyone teaching, writing, presenting about Native peoples as part of their 250th work. america250.utah.gov/power-of-pla...

Last May, a "nice" Southern white lady in Disney World told her kid to back away from me because I'm a witch.

L'esprit de l'escalier moment. I smiled, but I realized later I should have asked them for a dalmation.
Yep. Charming as in “nice neighborhood witch that befriends night creatures and kills dangerous lycanthropes” and not “scary witch that used evil magiks to hijack a school bus to fill her cauldron with succulent and plump children for the coven party on the 13th.”

Only a month into 2026, this is, by far, the weirdest snow stat we've seen in a region that typically isn't lacking for snow.

Something that really gets me about the state of battery development is that consumers have so many amazing battery powered devices now.

Cordless stick vacuums have become very mainstream. Almost everyone is using cordless power tools, in fact lots of auto shops hardy use air tools anymore!

That’s ok, with no snowpack in the West our time will come.
It's the first work day of the month, so we get the latest Wildland Fire Potential Outlook from NIFC. Here's February and March. Looks rough for the South, Texas, and the Southern Great Plains.

10 to 1 odds say they will just blame renewables:

“It’s those damn wind turbines and solar panels and batteries and dams that don’t work in the cold or at night and kill bad eagles.

And Biden.”
Right now: the federal government has to help these folks and get the power back on, and if they can’t, they should resign

After that: we need a Grid New Deal and rebuild the grid for this century
Tens of thousands of people across Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana have gone a week without power or heat after a brutal ice storm. At least three dozen people have died in connection with the storm, officials have said.

They let mosquitos torment Florida Alcatraz prisoners last summer.

And if the prisoners got encephalitis or West Nile, that was a feature not a bug.

And the VA suddenly stopped helping ICE with prisoner healthcare recently—both directly and by processing outside payments.

Features, not bugs.
death from disease in concentration camps is so widespread and so predictable that it's pretty clearly a feature, not a bug.
ICE now confirming that there is a measles outbreak at the Texas concentration camp where young Liam was held.

He stopped as soon as he could.

Hope the train crew is ok.

And yeah, each grade crossing has a phone number on it. Call it or 911 the instant something get stuck on the tracks. The railroad can possibly get the train to stop.
