The Post Office at Gilbert, NV in the Gilbert Mining District (est 1924) in Esmeralda County, about 25 miles west of Tonopah, closed on Nov 14, 1942 after 17 years. Named for the Gilbert brothers, the town peaked with about 400-500 people in 1929. t.co/tHQV5bLGuF

The Post Office in the northern Elko town of Rowland, NV closed on Nov 14, 1942 after more than 42 years. The town was named for local rancher and settler Rowland Gill. It is near the Idaho border on the Bruneau River between Owyhee and Jarbidge. tinyurl.com/3pzbbu4d

On Nov 14, 1864, acting Nevada Governor James Nye, and acting Secretary of State Orion Clemens, proclaimed Nov 24, 1864 as a "day of public Thanksgiving and Prayer."
Note: Nye performed as Acting Governor until Governor-elect Blasdel was sworn in on Dec 5.

US Bureau of Reclamation Concrete Inspector Kenneth Rankin was crushed by a bucket carrying 8 cubic yards of liquid concrete at the Hoover Dam on Nov 14, 1934. He was the first Government worker killed during its construction.

Daughter-in-law to famed architect Frederic de Longchamps and "Nevada's foremost poet of the 1960s and 1970s," Joanne de Longchamps (née Cutten) died in Reno, NV on Nov 13, 1983. She was cremated and had her ashes were spread over Pyramid Lake. t.co/S4D46TFRig

Born in Fresno, CA, southwest artist Maynard Dixon, 71, died in Tuscon, AZ on Nov 13 or Nov 14, 1946. He was famous for desert landscapes, including some of Nevada. He was cremated with his ashes spread behind his residence at Mount Carmel, UT. bit.ly/2qNqIj8
