Game designer and writer. Currently Broadsword and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Distressingly typical geek interests. He/him.
Look, we love Ellen Ripley, but we've also gotta give Lynn Peltzer her flowers. That woman took out three Gremlins one on one. Billy got one and then blew up the theater, which only counts as one for me. I know @benjaminahr.mobi knows what I'm talking about.

When I go home for any holiday, I finally see commercials (humble-brag at paying for streaming services at the "no commercials level). And it's been great this year seeing so many @dropout.tv people show up in them and my parents -- as per usual -- having no idea what I'm talking about.

post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, soundgarden, pearl jam, or alice in chains.

Look it's all perfect albums from this band, but I feel like my cohort taps out at Flood or Apollo 18 and this and Factory Showroom are chockablock with bangers

Why is every decorating decision Trump makes basically just this guy?

The Vance quote makes it sound like moral ideas are destructive and I think that's absolutely what he really thinks.
Immigration. You thought it only caused literally everything bad in the history of the world *except* nuclear war.

But extremist politicians do not think you're afraid enough yet.

So they are here to clarify: Immigrants also cause nuclear war.

The thing I'd do with a time machine is to first get filthy rich with future knowledge of markets. Then I'd blow all that money making extremely expensive, eerily accurate sci-fi movies which will probably flop so hard they'd be unable to affect the timeline.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. And now, here's the Christmas decoration that my mom grew up with, so I had to, too.

Ralphie, the commercial decoded.
A few excerpts from Darmok's Christmas Story:

Ralphie and Flick, at the flagpole.

Randy, his arms down.

The Old Man, when the lamp broke.

Santa and Ralphie, on the mountain.

The common denominator here is that I love secondary worlds. Even if it's a really familiar-seeming world like in the Green Bone Saga, you give me different cities, countries, cultures and histories and I will want to devour them slowly and thoroughly.
Honorable mentions are the Green Bone Saga, an action movie series of the Powder Mage trilogy, and I'd turn the Ana and Din stories into movies or a series if it means I can find another way to live in that world for longer.

My dream project is Leave it to Chance. But especially if that could get more issues of the series. That there aren't a hundred or more issues of that series is the first clue that this isn't the ideal timeline.
OK, less contentious post:

You've been placed in charge of a movie studio, and have an unlimited budget to adapt any work of your choosing that has never been made into a live-action TV series or film. What are you picking?

For me: PC Hodgell's Kencyrath Cycle and there's no close second

This is maybe the most unhinged version of "making up a guy to be mad at" I think I've ever seen.

Normally, I match my watchbands with my shirt. But when I travel, I don't want to bring all of them with me, so I choose one and stick with it. This time I decided to mix and match for a Christmas theme. Bonus, these are my highschool's colors so good for being in my childhood home for the holidays.

I very much doubt it'll include the tick tock of the government fully ignoring a judge's orders, but that'd be good.
what do we think the revamped 60 Minutes segment will look like? the obvious answer is it will include interviews with the administration, but an underrated contender is interviews with victims of purported migrant crime.

In broadcast television, you're not the customer, you're the product. Their job is to make enough good stuff to attract enough audience so that their customers (the advertisers) give them more money. In games, it feels like the real customers are the shareholders as they chase tech company growth.
This isn't far off, and we saw the same thing during the NFT gaming craze.

Big publishers believe they need to say that they're investigating AI to keep investors happy.

Angel investors who invest in small companies are more interested in hitting the AI grand slam than they are in shipping a game.
My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore

You know where you are? You're in the Jungle, baby! You're not gonna dieeeeeee, because the in the Jungle, Eurogames don't have p-p-p-player elimination!
Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games. But not lame games like Monopoly and Uno. The Jungle is hardcore Eurogame territory. Don't come to the jungle unless you want games at least as hardcore as Terraforming Mars.

Politician heal thyself. Imagine making this observation while specifically announcing a plan that comes entirely from a party's platform and stands against the scientific conclusions of every major medical organization.
Dr. Oz: "We are in a weird place in America where we have mixed politics and medicine. And you know what you get when you mix politics and medicine? Politics. There is no medicine left."

You know that thing where famous and/or rich people surround themselves with sycophants and end up full crazy and unable to interact with regular people or hold regular conversations? Chatbots are doing exactly that to everyone.
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers
