So like they’re essentially trying to instantiate a spheres of influence world, right? With a major power at the head of each, and let’s call them for lack of better terms, Eurasia, Eastasia, and Oceania?

Been waiting for this uptick in momentum. This admin contradicts the spirit of what these events mean and bring. Countries that actually value it all should host so athletes don't take on the added burden of bullshit and fans can enjoy without complicity.

Genuinely, why would any country send a team to a tournament in America, when you know more than zero of your fans are going to be detained and deported for no good reason?

This is actively unsafe.

For years I watched established journalists fumble to explain trump. "Maybe he's playing 4D chess," they'd say.

No, he's just a stupid, impulsive criminal. And you normalised him.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

People said giving him a second state visit was a genius move of strategy - really seems to have paid off.

maybe so but I’m not doing this so they’ll listen to me; I’m doing it because my opposition is morally necessary for my soul.
