I’m not huge into horror, but this is a very cool story.
I don't know why BLACK RIVER ORCHARD is on sale for two bucks at your favorite electronic bookmonger, but it is, so if you want a story of suburban folk horror (shut up it is too a thing) where a creepy cult of apple-eaters take over a town and begin, um, changing? Welp, go forth and get after it.

Taking “extreme measures” is a very, very smart strategy for athletes.

For most people, the pandemic days of masking are behind us. In certain corners of the Winter Olympics, though, things still look a lot like they did in Covid times. Some athletes are taking extreme measures to stay healthy. n.pr/4akK70l

Exactly. There is no such thing as AI writing.
Fine. The discourse.

The NYT article isn't about writing. Or ai. Seriously.

It's about yet another Kindle Unlimited scam. The same kind of "gaming the algorithm" scams that have been going on since KU started. Generate garbage, get a few dozen sales, collect money, move on to next pile of garbage.

I literally ran into him on the street in Greenwich Village because I wasn’t watching where I was going.

I said, “Oh, it’s you!” Because I’m terrible with celebrity names, and was completely surprised.

He laughed and said, “Yes, it’s me!”

Hell yes.
The secret to success in any creative field in the future is not going to be making interchangeable formulaic crap. It's going to be making stuff only you could make.

BASH: Is this measles outbreak a consequence of the administration undermining support for vaccines?

DR OZ: I don't believe so. Secretary Kennedy has been advocating for measles vaccines

BASH: Oh, come on

This is a different kind of doomer-ism. It’s not productive. Punk rock shows us the way forward. I grew up in this culture. Shows in basements. Hand drawn flyers. There is always a market for quality, for counterculture. (1/x) countercraft.substack.com/p/why-litera...

Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

Apparently, this drink only works for your “inmune” system. If you want to strengthen your immune system to protect against the flu, you should get an actual flu vaccine.

It is absolutely outrageous that this drink is allowed to be sold anywhere as “The Flu Shot,” let alone at a pharmacy.
America: where you can sell a random “wellness” drink at CVS, claim it “may” somehow “reinforce” your immune system, and literally call it “The Flu Shot.”

“Longevity medicine” as it applies to your daily life is a scam. Want to live longer? Eat right. Exercise. Sleep properly. Keep BP and blood sugar under control Don’t smoke/drink/do drugs.

There is no pill. There is no supplement. There is no hack. There is no trick. There is no secret. Sorry.

I am saying this in complete seriousness. The new Toxic Avenger with Peter Dinklage/Kevin Bacon/Elijah Wood is high cinema. It is a surrealist masterpiece. Just trust me and watch it.

Hint for the ex phys students: note the RER.
Triathlete Kristian Blummenfelt claims a VO2max of 101 mL/kg/min. It is grade-A, ribbed for your pleasure, bullshit. Calibrate your gas analyser and volume/flow sensor, and then measure it properly.

I knew a number of farmers when I worked in the Midwest. Go meet one, and ask them about the idea of drinking raw milk. Listen to what they say, but also *note the look on their face*.

It’s the same face *you* made when you saw that kid pick his nose and eat it in the second grade. Get it?

After practicing in Chicago for 12 years (and in very urban settings in New Jersey before that), three things really strike me about Philadelphia.

1) I see many more people with bullets in them
2) I see many more pedestrians struck by cars
3) I see many more cyclists struck by cars
