For a fleeting moment, the clouds perfectly mirrored the peaks of Manaslu (the 8th highest mountain in the world).

Velvet ants are so common in the Florida sand that I don't always give them a second look (unless they're miniscule), but this one caught my eye because it suddenly buried itself in the sand, by scooting backwards.

Tiny, colorful baby scallops — a total cuteness overload in one dish!

You might think, “This person posts the same creature every year!” But honestly, seeing the same life return year after year is something truly wonderful𓂃🫧‪

This is perhaps the most outrageous thing I've ever captured. A moonbow (rainbow made from moonlight rather than sunlight), with snow (rather than rain) with the northern lights behind it. A Polar Lunar Snowbow?

I was quite confident on my knowledge of marine biodiversity in my area (I have a PhD in marine biology after all).

But today I learn about Paromola cuvieri, one of the largest crab species of the Northeast Atlantic, that uses its last pair of legs to carry live specimens of sponges and corals 🦑 🌊

This katydid from Ecuador has been affectionately named by photographers "candy-cane katydid". The truth is... we are not sure which species it is. One possibility is a Harroweria nymph, but until someone witnesses the transformation into the adult stage it will remain a mystery.

if you see someone wearing a mask PLEASE assume that YES, they would love it if you also masked. if they say “no, don’t worry about it” they probably don’t mean it.

Masked Flowerpiercers are omnivorous birds that eat insects, fruit, and nectar. They use their uniquely shaped beak to cut a hole in the bottom of flowers to drink nectar. These birds can be found in the cloud forests of the Andes Mountains.

While pylochelids MAY represent a similar form to the ancestral hermit crab, symmetry has re-evolved many times within them (longboi-ification of carcinization?) 🦀🧪🦑

In rocks, in wood, in abandonded worm tubes in coral, and more! I'm really interested in this!

Taking a pause on lantern bugs. Not sure what's next so here's a pleasing fungus beetle (why pleasing?) from the Peruvian Amazon. It's blue, so enjoy it!

Probably Cypherotylus debauvei, previously under the genus Gibbifer.
